Cher Was Shocked by Zendaya’s Stunning Tribute Look: ‘I Thought It Was My Old Dress’

From her stylish outfits for the viral “Dune 2” and her fashionable tennis-inspired looks while promoting “Challengers,” Zendaya is currently the go-to style icon in Hollywood. A few months ago, something extraordinary took place between this star of some top Spider-Man films and Cher. At Cher’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Zendaya paid tribute to the “Believe” singer with an awe-inspiring outfit, and she was so on point that Cher believed Zendaya was wearing one of her actual dresses.

For many years, American fashion designer Bob Mackie’s muse was Cher, between making the dress she wore at the 1986 Oscars when she wore a black feather headdress, the 1988 Oscars when she won for Moonstruck, along with and doing things like creating costumes for her Las Vegas residency in the early ’00s. So when Zendaya was chosen to induct Cher at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, her stylist Law Roach went to Mackie. As the designer told Etalk:

Zendaya donned an attire similar to one I designed for a fashion show, aiming to capture a hint of Cher’s essence for a particular moment. Remarkably, it seemed as though Cher mistook the outfit for one of her own, but in reality, it was a creation from a different project entirely. It was intriguing to observe this mix-up unfold.

In their visit to Mackie, Zendaya and Roach aimed to perfectly embody Cher’s style. However, unbeknownst to them, they managed to make Cher believe they had chosen a genuine dress from her past. Here’s Zendaya in a Bob Mackie design:

Is it surprising that people might praise her? The dazzling gold gown from Mackie’s 2001 autumn haute couture line is strikingly reminiscent of Cher! At the event held at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio last October, Zendaya had the opportunity to present an award to Cher following a four-minute speech. Given her role in acknowledging Cher’s fashion history with Bob Mackie, it was only fitting that she wore something inspired by the icon. In her speech when being inducted by Zendaya, Cher began by expressing her difficulty finding the right words because of how remarkable her accomplishments are. She went on to praise Cher’s name as one that is equally legendary as her impressive legacy, and emphasized that she has excelled in everything she’s done exceptionally well. Zendaya highlighted Cher’s success in selling over 140 million records while breaking numerous stereotypes for female vocalists.

Over the years, Zendaya has flaunted numerous stylish instances, several of which might not have occurred without the joint efforts of Cher and Bob Mackie.
