For over four decades, “Star Trek” has been a staple in the entertainment industry, requiring a multitude of talented individuals to keep its universe thriving. Despite the plethora of actors who have embarked on this journey, there are still some notable figures missing from its cast. As new “Trek” productions approach, I find myself eagerly anticipating the potential addition of esteemed science-fiction stars to the crew or other roles within this cosmos.
If you’re considering adding a new face to ‘Star Trek’, or perhaps inviting one for a standalone film, these actors would be an excellent fit. In fact, their extensive background in science fiction is surprising given they haven’t been a part of ‘Star Trek’ before now. Moving on to my recommendations, let’s discuss the roles I believe they’d excel in within the franchise.
Gillian Anderson
If Bryan Fuller had continued as the showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery, Gillian Anderson might have appeared as a Starfleet Captain by now. During a panel at D-Con Chamber, Fuller shared that Anderson was intended for this role, though her specific character in the series wasn’t specified. It’s an interesting twist that the actress who teamed up with David Duchovny to portray the paranormal skeptic in The X-Files could have instead regularly encountered aliens on Star Trek.
It seems undeniable that Anderson is an ideal candidate for a Starfleet Captain or other top-tier position within the organization, as she embodies the spirit of Captain Janeway. Her potential in this role feels more tangible since there’s been a precedent with a character reminiscent of her. However, I can only hope that it becomes a reality someday.

Rosario Dawson
Following her roles as Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars and nurse Claire Temple in Marvel series on Netflix, it seems natural for Rosario Dawson to join Star Trek next. Interestingly, she’s long expressed a fondness for the franchise and dreams of being involved, even suggesting years ago that she could play a bit part just to be a part of the action and fulfill a lifelong ambition. Given her prominence in Hollywood, it seems unlikely they’d relegate her to a minor role; more likely, they’d offer her a significant part instead.
Dawson’s father proposed the idea that she should take up the role of a character named Q, and I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion. Instead of linking her directly to Starfleet, which seems too predictable, let’s explore other opportunities to introduce more Q characters into the franchise. This could add an element of unpredictability and chaos to the shows from time to time.

Alan Tudyk
Alan Tudyk isn’t limited to just science fiction roles; in fact, the bulk of his career has been focused on this genre. He experienced an incident during the filming of “Rogue One,” and he was part of the cast for the legendary canceled sci-fi show, “Firefly.” It’s surprising he hasn’t collaborated with “Star Trek” yet, and I believe it’s long overdue that he does.
Tudyk stands out as both an impressive voice actor and live-action performer, making him an ideal choice for any alien character in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, whether physical or ethereal. It’s hard to put into words, but there’s something about him that makes me envision him portraying a Medusan character – it just seems like the perfect fit.

Elliot Page
Elliot Page has been less visible in Hollywood recently, possibly because he hasn’t found the right part yet. However, there’s a great chance for him to reappear in the Star Trek series, as fans are eagerly anticipating and open to welcoming the next stage of his career.
Additionally, it seems to me that Page possesses a distinctive appearance ideal for portraying a Vulcan or Romulan character. Just as James Frain was ideally cast as Sarek, I envision Page assuming the role of a Vulcan commander or a cunning Romulan plotting to undermine the Federation with a masterful plan. Honestly, I long for Page to make a significant impact in Hollywood once more, and what better fanbase to introduce him to than that of Star Trek.

John Boyega
There seems to be a portion of John Boyega that views his time in Star Wars as a sort of “contractual obligation,” suggesting he might not readily take on another science fiction franchise. However, if I were compiling a list of top actors for a potential Star Trek revival, he’s the one I’d choose to lead the charge and boost the franchise.
As the head of a franchise, it’s likely that he should assume the role of a Starfleet Captain. While I agree that everyone has the potential to spearhead a Star Trek journey, his previous roles in Star Wars were more supporting than leading. It’s long overdue for John Boyega to step into the spotlight of sci-fi, and Trek would gladly take him on board if he’s open to the opportunity again.

Domhnall Gleeson
In reality, the image I chose was of him portraying Hux, but what I really envision is more of Domhnall Gleeson from Ex Machina, in a Star Trek film. To put it simply, there’s no lack of impressive performances by Gleeson that highlight his acting abilities, and any one of those roles would make him an ideal choice for the upper echelons of Starfleet.
It’s unfortunate that Domhnall Gleeson’s mesmerizing portrayal as a villain might go unnoticed if he were to appear in Star Trek, especially since it could lead to him playing one of the most malevolent antagonists across all quadrants, surpassing even the deadliest villains from The Next Generation and perhaps even challenging Dukat’s reputation from Deep Space Nine. His talent seems more than capable of such a role; we merely need someone at Paramount to recognize his potential and let him shine.

Katee Sackhoff
For quite some time, Katee Sackhoff has been a significant figure in the realm of science fiction, particularly gaining notable recognition through her role in Battlestar Galactica. Now, years later, she’s portrayed Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian, and has mentioned her interest in moving to Star Trek. Jonathan Frakes proposed the idea of her joining Starfleet Academy, which I wholeheartedly endorse.
Perhaps now isn’t the ideal moment to introduce Section 31, given the harsh criticisms in the latest film’s reviews. Yet, is there no character more fitting for the morally ambiguous group? I can envision Sackhoff rekindling fan support for Section 31. And if she could be teamed up with Michelle Yeoh for a potential sequel to the movie, that would make it even more appealing.
Here are a few names I’d be excited to see associated with the ongoing Star Trek journey! To stay updated on all the latest, it’s worth subscribing to Paramount+ and revisiting some of the outstanding series they’ve produced in recent times.
