As I eagerly wait for my next international adventure, I’m finding solace in diving back into the world of the wealthy characters in “The White Lotus” for its third season, airing this weekend on TV schedules for 2025. Having previously taken us to Hawaii and Italy, this time we journey to Thailand. Though I imagined their stay would be a dream job and vacation, hearing about the realities of filming abroad for the show was quite unexpected.
For nearly half of the previous year, the cast resided in a Southeast Asian nation for approximately seven months at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui. Recently, TopMob spoke with Sarah Catherine Hook and Sam Nivola, the youngest cast members who portray the children of Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey’s characters. Remarkably, their stay mirrored my expectations when envisioning luxury for a series like The White Lotus.
“I found myself utterly amazed by the selection they offered, a so-called ‘pillow menu.’ I could choose from various types of pillows, and it seemed simply absurd yet delightful at the same time.”*
Sam: “It’s a level of luxury that is just absurd.”
Sarah: “And, like, shouldn’t exist.”
A pillow menu?? Now, that’s a whole new level of fancy!
The third season’s cast features Walter Goggins from “Fallout”, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and the return of Natasha Rothwell as Belinda from the first season. They were fortunate enough to collaborate on one of today’s top television shows, masterfully created by the talented Mike White.
During their portrayal of two Southern teenagers embarking on a family trip to assist Piper with her research, the actors acknowledged Mike White for his “outstanding support.

Why Filming The White Lotus Is Not Exactly What I Thought It Would Be
In Season 3, which has already received critical acclaim, a significant portion of the show unfolds entirely within the resort setting. The cast I interviewed often felt this was similar to being in a luxurious yet confined space, as Sarah Catherine Hook put it, “a golden cage.” This sentiment aligns with what we’ve heard from other seasons.
Over time, I’ve referred to it as a gilded prison, where we had the freedom to depart, yet finding a way out was not always straightforward. It wasn’t socially acceptable, and there were many advantages here that made leaving seem unnecessary or pointless. However, towards the final stages, we did venture out more frequently, especially in Phuket. It felt liberating to step outside our comfort zone, and we even embarked on numerous boat trips and adventures.
The comments align with the circumstances during the initial season of “The White Lotus,” which was shot in Hawaii against a backdrop of a pandemic. Although the hotel stay might have been pleasant, it wasn’t always straightforward to venture out and explore while the series was filming scenes, and I was taken aback to discover that the experience may not have matched my mental image of it.
It seems there were more expectations for the Thai travel experiences of the cast, as they seemed to spend quite a bit of time at hotels rather than having numerous adventure stories. Jason Isaacs contributed to the discussion by expressing something similar.
Initially, I thought we’d gather together and socialize promptly. However, our first destination turned out to be the vast Four Seasons Resort on Koh Samui, where filming took place. As a result, the entire resort was ours, and the actors were provided with grand villas. Consequently, I was escorted to an extravagantly lavish living space complete with a butler. Despite this, I didn’t get to mingle much, feeling quite isolated until Patrick, Sarah, Catherine, and Sam, who portray my children, began visiting me regularly to keep me company because I felt so lonely there.
Indeed, they truly enjoyed themselves, yet one might argue that sometimes extravagance can be overdone, right? The premier episode of Season 3 of The White Lotus airs this Sunday on HBO or with a Max subscription, and now you have the chance to verify if those advertised luxurious pillows live up to their hype.
