Initially, we believed Sony had reached a new low with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, but astonishingly, they managed to dip even lower by unveiling Days Gone Remastered during the latest State of Play. It’s almost surreal to acknowledge that Sony is in such dire straits that they feel compelled to remaster one of their less successful titles – and yet, here we are.
To put it simply, it’s hard to comprehend why, out of all the worthy games that could benefit from a remaster, the focus was on Days Gone Remastered instead of classics like Jak and Daxter, Infamous, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, and others. This decision may leave some enthusiastic fans of Days Gone Remastered feeling disappointed, but it’s important to remember that these are just the choices made by the company.
Sony has announced that fans who currently own the game can upgrade to the remastered version for $10. It’s great to see that Sony is providing this updated version to those who have already bought the game. Although it would have been ideal if it were a free update, similar to some other cross-generation titles during its initial release, unfortunately, that isn’t possible.
Despite any criticisms this writer may have, Days Gone Remastered is unlikely to be a poor game upon release. While the original PS4 version had its issues, it was still an enjoyable open-world game with satisfying zombie shooting mechanics. The remaster promises to enhance the number of zombies even further, which suggests that it will be visually impressive on the PS5.
Despite the fact that this isn’t the most poorly remastered game Sony could have chosen, it’s disappointing to see a mediocre title receive such lavish treatment. I think it would be more beneficial if Sony focused on revamping one of their underappreciated games to address flaws from hasty development. The reason some fans are more enthusiastic about the newly launched Tomb Raider IV to VI is because it includes an Angel of Darkness remaster, one of the weakest Tomb Raider games.
It’s less necessary to have Days Gone Remastered since those who own the PS4 version can already enjoy a free 60 FPS upgrade on their PS5.
Given that the current game version for PS4 boasts high-quality graphics and maintains a steady 60 frames per second, what advantages might a PS5 version offer?
It’s frustrating since it seems likely that Sony might take down the initial version from Steam, similar to what they did with Horizon Zero Dawn. In doing so, they are essentially replacing a fully operational and enjoyable game with an updated version that boasts slightly improved graphics.
It’s hard to understand why this mediocre Sony exclusive is getting a remaster, especially since it seems like gamers don’t have the best reputation lately. On the other hand, with the increasing number of controversial figures who make money by promoting hate speech and unpopular opinions, perhaps we do deserve this remaster as a form of punishment for allowing such individuals to thrive. Many of their followers are gamers, and it seems like we’re contributing to their success in some way.
On April 25, 2025, Days Gone Remastered will be available for players on both PlayStation 5 and PC, offering a decent zombie game experience. For those seeking a more engaging zombie shooter, they might consider picking up the recently remade Resident Evil 4, along with the original version as well.
