In a recent chat with Kamiya Jani on Curly Tales, Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, openly discussed various intriguing aspects of her life. From sharing her affection for alcohol to unveiling her special birthday ritual, the conversation brimmed with fascinating tidbits. Moreover, she recounted the heartwarming tale of how their relationship transformed from adversaries to soulmates.
One interesting detail Sunita disclosed was her affinity for spirits. She confessed that her preferred area at home is the bar counter, where she relishes her preferred beverage. Sunita mentioned casually that Govinda sometimes jokes about having a “Dharam ji” in their household, a term referring to her fondness for alcoholic drinks. She elaborated that she only indulges in drinking on special occasions like her children’s birthdays or while watching the exciting India vs. Pakistan cricket matches. However, she added emphatically, “I don’t drink every day; it’s just my weekly cheat day.
What stood out most was her unique birthday ritual: Sunita Ahuja disclosed that for the last twelve years, she has chosen to celebrate her birthdays in solitude. Contrary to what many would prefer – celebrating with loved ones – she finds joy in spending the day on her own. She put it simply, “I’ve spent so many years taking care of my children, now that they are grown, I want to live for myself.”
Come morning, she visits a temple or Gurudwara for prayers, and as the clock chimes 8 PM, she uncorks a bottle, cuts her cake, and spends the rest of the evening in quiet solitude. She expressed this sentiment, “Just as the clock strikes eight, I open the bottle, cut my cake, and sip alcohol alone.
Sunita shared stories about her history with Govinda, admitting they didn’t hit it off at first. They crossed paths when she was in the 9th grade, often clashing. However, as time passed, their relationship evolved, and they found themselves falling for each other. Sunita chuckled while recounting an instance where Govinda commented on her short bob hairstyle, suggesting she grow her hair long. This led to daily oiling of her hair, causing it to reach her feet. “Govinda advised me to let my hair grow. I ended up oiling my hair every day, and it grew to my knees. Love can be blind, but now I see more clearly,” she quipped playfully.
