Following numerous A-list castings without revealing Nolan’s next project, Universal unexpectedly disclosed just before Christmas that the movie would be a global adaptation of The Odyssey, promising a “mythic action epic” filmed with innovative IMAX technology.

After parting ways with his long-term studio, Warner Bros., in 2020, Christopher Nolan is joining forces once more with Universal Pictures, the company that produced ‘Oppenheimer’, for their upcoming project, ‘The Odyssey’.

Homer’s great poem narrates the 10-year odyssey of Odysseus as he navigates his way back to Ithaca following the Trojan War. Along his arduous journey, Odysseus encounters obstacles set by gods and mythological beings. Simultaneously, his wife and son must face off against suitors who aspire to take over his position.

Nolan’s movie adaptation of “The Odyssey” will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026, with filming set to start towards the end of this month.

The movie marks Damon’s third collaboration with Nolan, after Oppenheimer and Interstellar.

At the 2024 Academy Awards, Nolan clinched his initial Oscar wins for the film “Oppenheimer”, earning him both the best picture and best director honors.
