My Daughter Spotted an Indiana Jones Easter Egg in Paddington, and It Made My Day

SPOILER ALERT: I’d rather be safe than sorry for those who prefer to watch Paddington in Peru without any advance knowledge. If you fall into that category, feel free to prepare an orange marmalade sandwich and carry on with your day.

This version maintains the original’s tone while making it easier for the reader to understand the content and follow the advice given at the end.

Watching Paddington in Peru for 2025 has been one of the films I’ve been eagerly anticipating since I discovered that the delightful, marmalade-loving bear was back on the big screen for another escapade. My enthusiasm paled in comparison to my soon-to-be 9-year-old daughter, who became even more thrilled when I mentioned we’d be attending an early screening. However, unbeknownst to me, during the movie, I would experience one of my most heartwarming parenting moments to date.

Being a movie enthusiast who practically embodies films in daily life (whether positively or negatively), it’s been my practice to pass on my favorite movies to my kids for years. This can range from timeless ’80s classics to beloved comedies from my youth that I believe they’ll enjoy. Interestingly, one of those movie selections turned out to be a significant hit. And yes, the daring explorer featured in it was the key factor…

First Off, My Daughter And I Both Loved Paddington In Peru

Before I get too excited, let me share that my daughter and I truly enjoyed “Paddington in Peru”. Although I don’t believe this newest adventure featuring Ben Whishaw’s voice exceeds the fantastic rating of “Paddington 2” (since I consider it one of the greatest sequels ever), our journey to South America was a wonderfully enjoyable experience, and it ranks among the most fun I’ve had this year.

The journey of the Browns towards the rainforest in search of Paddington’s Aunt Lucy resulted in numerous humorous, thrilling, and heartwarmingly emotional scenes that left me dabbing away quite a few tears.

But The Best Moment Came When My Daughter Pointed Out An Indiana Jones Reference

In the climactic scene of “Paddington in Peru,” my little one nudged me and whispered, “Dad, this is like Indiana Jones!” She hadn’t mentioned Indy in ages, yet there she was making a connection between Paddington and that classic adventure. Quite a moment it was!

To be honest, it’s nice she recalled the entire beginning scene from the movie rather than the incredibly scary melting-face scene towards the end of the action flick. Here’s hoping she didn’t catch on to that part!

My Daughter’s Comment Made Me Feel Like I’m Doing Something Right, At Least When It Comes To Movies

My eldest child is my daughter, so I’m figuring things out as I navigate through parenthood with her. Sometimes I get it right, other times not, but the special moment we shared during a movie preview, just a week before her ninth birthday, gave me the confidence that I might be getting the hang of this parenting gig, at least when it comes to choosing movies.

Just as my father and his mother before him, I’ve consistently endeavored to pass on my passion for movies to my children. I’ve shown my daughter some top-notch Studio Ghibli films and even took her to watch The Wild Robot. This experience has been quite an adventure, and I eagerly look forward to what’s to come next.

The lesson from this tale is clear: Spend more time watching movies with your children, introduce them to various films, and above all, discuss those movies with them. An occasion like the one you see here might just be around the corner.
