Since the movie adaptation of “This Ends With Us” premiered in theaters, it has been shrouded in controversy. The current drama film (now available for streaming with a Netflix subscription) is at the heart of a legal dispute, as both Blake Lively and director/actor Justin Baldoni have filed lawsuits and made accusations against each other. The most recent development: Lively claims there are two additional women who have grievances against Baldoni, while his lawyer has responded to Ryan Reynolds’ appearance on “SNL”.
Initially, after Blake Lively took action against Baldoni’s production company in a lawsuit, Baldoni countered by filing a suit against the New York Times. Subsequently, he also sued Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively for defamation. The legal teams of both actors have been quite busy lately, as it seems, with recent developments suggesting that more women encountered problems with Baldoni while filming the series “This Ends With Us“.
What’s going on with the other complaints about Justin Baldoni?
As a movie critic, I find myself closely following the intense legal battles between actors Ian Somerhalder and Blake Lively. The monetary risks are substantial, given the hefty legal fees and multi-million dollar stakes at play. Both parties’ legal teams are tirelessly working to uncover weaknesses in each other’s narratives and vindicate their clients’ truthfulness. Recent reports by The Hollywood Reporter suggest that Lively’s legal team has been in contact with two women who share similar experiences involving Somerhalder on set. Although the specifics remain confidential, a representative for Lively has confirmed this development.
Significantly, these individuals who are both victims and witnesses have granted Ms. Lively authorization to disclose their correspondences within the Amended Complaint, maintaining the same format. They are also expected to provide testimonies and relevant documents during the discovery phase.
Here it is. At the moment I’m telling this tale, the names and facts behind these complaints are kept confidential. However, given that many of their cases are “hear-says,” these two fresh complaints could potentially bring about significant change. Regrettably, we can only speculate what will eventually be revealed.
What Baldoni’s Lawyer Said About Reynolds And Lively On SNL
Over the weekend, SNL 50 was broadcast (available for those with a Peacock subscription), and people were taken aback when Ryan Reynolds unexpectedly appeared in a short scene. The legal dispute ongoing seemed to be referenced by him. Later, during a discussion about the case on “Hot Mics with Billy Bush”, Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman commented:
frankly speaking, I don’t know anyone whose spouse has experienced sexual harassment or made light of such situations; therefore, when I encountered someone who did so, it took me by surprise.
As soon as Reynolds made his appearance on SNL 50, the internet was abuzz with speculation. Fans pondered if this moment might somehow influence the ongoing defamation case, since it concerns the way Baldoni has been depicted in public. More specifically, there’s debate about whether the character Nicepool from Deadpool & Wolverine is a satirical representation of Baldoni as a director and actor.
As time unfolds, it remains uncertain how events will play out if or when the two stars of “It Ends With Us” find themselves in court. This legal battle appears to have halted any prospects of a sequel, so we may not see one on the 2025 movie release schedule.
