The Green Lantern Corps might finally receive proper treatment in live-action, featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart in “Lanterns.” Details about this project are tightly held at DC Studios, but Pierre recently gave fans a hint about his portrayal of beloved characters John Stewart in “Lanterns.
In an interview with BUZZ (as reported by DCFilmNews on Twitter), Pierre spoke enthusiastically about his upcoming role as John Stewart in the film “Lanterns.” When asked about his next project, Pierre replied, “At the moment, I’m deeply immersed and dedicated to a truly captivating production.” He went on to say, “A project that holds a special place in my heart. I’m referring to ‘Lanterns,’ where I will be bringing John Stewart to life, a character I hold close to my heart.” Fans have been won over by Aaron Pierre’s commitment to the high-octane action of “Rebel Ridge,” and it seems he is carrying that same passion into “Lanterns.” He elaborated:
I will put forth my utmost effort to animate him in a manner that appeals to the audience, while also honoring his unique personality.
According to DC Comics legend, John Stewart is among Earth’s most esteemed Green Lanterns. This character debuted in Green Lantern #87 back in 1971, and before that, he was a marine who had a disagreement with one of his superiors and decided to leave the corps. After his military career, John Stewart pursued architecture and secured a top-tier position. However, the Green Lantern Corps had long admired Stewart, even since his birth. The Martian Manhunter was tasked with evaluating John Stewart, and once he did, Stewart proved worthy of earning a Green Lantern ring.
‘Lanterns’ Scripts Receive Massive Praise by One of Its Stars
Details regarding DC Studio’s “Lanterns” are still under wraps. The series is being compared to HBO’s “True Detective,” with Hal Jordan and John Stewart portraying the lead detective duo. As of now, the full cast list is a mystery, though some main characters have been announced by DC Studios. Poorna Jagannathan has been chosen to play Zoe in “Lanterns.” This character was specifically created for the show, but her role’s specifics are yet to be disclosed. However, the actress has voiced high expectations for the upcoming series.
She remarked in January that this was the first script she had read which made her comprehend the necessity for an NDA. However, I must say it was the finest writing I have ever encountered. I may not have any familiarity with sci-fi genres, and I could not care less about them honestly. But this script makes science fiction feel like my reality.”
Meanwhile, Jagannathan shared that filming for Lanterns started at the end of January, and is currently in progress. As of now, an official release date has yet to be announced on HBO and Max.
