Soha Ali Khan reveals her mom Sharmila Tagore told her ‘Never marry an actor’ before she tied the knot with Kunal Kemmu

More recently, Soha Ali Khan disclosed that her esteemed mother, actress Sharmila Tagore, firmly discouraged her from marrying an actor prior to her union with the actor Kunal Kemmu. The couple, Soha and Kunal, had been in a relationship for a span of nine years before their wedding.

Last week on The Quizzitok Podcast, Soha Ali Khan, who recently celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary with Kunal on January 25, offered a rare peek into her family life and the counsel she got from her mother about the challenges of marrying someone in the same profession. Sharmila expressed worries about industry-related complications.

Although she herself was married to the famous cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, she felt that actors’ inflated egos and emotional ups and downs could complicate marital life. Sharmila’s advice to Soha was straightforward: “Pursue your dreams as you see fit, but steer clear of marriage with an actor,” is how Soha remembered it.

In simpler terms, Soha discussed her mother’s worries about actors, pointing out that they frequently experience highs and lows, sometimes getting carried away by their successes or disappointments. She noted that these emotional fluctuations can pose difficulties for partners in marriage. Sharmila advised that dating someone from the same profession could potentially introduce extra pressure into a romantic relationship.

Against her mother’s apprehensions, Soha chose to marry actor Kunal Kemmu in the year 2015. Today, they enjoy a blissful and strong union and have a lovely little girl named Inaaya as their precious offspring.

In my own reflections, I pondered over the stark differences in the characters of my parents, particularly my father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. He was an epitome of tranquility, seldom showing signs of agitation or anger. To put it simply, he was as cool and collected as a cucumber—a trait I firmly believe I inherited from him. His peaceful demeanor significantly influenced my upbringing.

From my perspective as a lifestyle guide, I’d put it this way: My mother, Sharmila Tagore, is a deeply emotional and sensitive soul. At times, she can be firm, but she isn’t shy about showing her feelings. Interestingly, I find myself more reflective of my father’s temperament. However, there’s one exception – my husband, Kunal. He has this extraordinary knack for pushing my buttons, occasionally triggering emotional ups and downs at home.
