In the continuation of Amazon’s Prime Video series, Bosch: Legacy features Titus Welliver reprising his role as Harry Bosch. Mimi Rogers and Madison Lintz return to their parts from the initial show as Honey “Money” Chander and Madeline “Maddie” Bosch. The first two seasons of Bosch: Legacy primarily revolve around Bosch’s collaboration with Money, while his daughter, a rising patrol officer in the LAPD, is making her mark. Joining the cast during season two was a recognizable figure – Anthony Michael Hall, who also appears in Season 3 of Reacher, another popular series.
In the third season of “Reacher“, Hall portrays Zachary Beck. He’s the father of Richard Beck, a college student who narrowly avoids abduction thanks to Reacher’s intervention. The main character, known as the drifter, is subsequently tasked by the senior Beck to work for him. However, it doesn’t take long before he uncovers that his employer’s business activities are not as straightforward as they seem.
In essence, Hall isn’t playing a new antagonist but rather reprising a role with villainous undertones in “Bosch: Legacy.” Throughout his career, Hall has portrayed a variety of characters, which adds an extra layer of enjoyment as we watch him on “Reacher.
Anthony Michael Hall Played Special Agent Will Barron in ‘Bosch: Legacy’
In 2023, Anthony Michael Hall joined season two of Bosch: Legacy, taking on the role of Special Agent Will Barron. This character led the task force that was investigating Bosch. His character was depicted as a cunning and resourceful individual who had navigated the bureaucratic landscape for years. For him, bringing down the Russian Bratva while spearheading this task force could be a significant career advancement, so he adopted an aggressive and relentless approach to his case.
Throughout Season 2, Special Agent Barron appeared in no less than five episodes, frequently barking commands and urging his agents to delve more deeply. Remorselessly, Barron persistently tries to implicate Bosch and Money in the murder of Carl Roger, going so far as to try to manipulate their friends and loved ones to reach them.
In the finale of Season 2 of “Bosch: Legacy,” Special Agent Barron found himself in a suspenseful predicament, leaving viewers unsure about Hall’s future role in the series. However, in an interview with Moviefone.com in June 2024, he clarified his continued involvement on the show.
As a devoted cinephile, I must admit that the suspenseful finale of ‘Bosch: Legacy’ has left me questioning my potential return. Although the season ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger, it seems that the storyline didn’t develop in a manner allowing for my involvement to continue. However, I can’t stress enough how much I cherished collaborating with such an exceptional team!
Anthony Michael Hall Offered a Bit of Insight Into His Role in ‘Reacher’
In June 2024, Anthony Michael Hall spoke about his role in season three of “Reacher,” although he couldn’t reveal specifics. He mentioned, “The character I play is quite intriguing and multifaceted. I portray him throughout the entire season. Additionally, there’s a captivating father-son dynamic that develops during the season, which adds another layer of interest.
Clues regarding Hall’s activities in the series “Reacher” might be present, as Season 3 is adapted from Lee Child’s book “Persuader.” This novel delves into the character of Zachary Beck, his bond with his son, and his illicit smuggling enterprise. In “Persuader,” Reacher persistently seeks information about Beck for the DEA, and despite the risks escalating to an unsafe level, he stubbornly refuses to withdraw from the pursuit.
Hall additionally discussed the impact of fatherhood on certain acting roles he’s taken on. He likened his real-life experience with having a one-year-old child to the paternal characters he has portrayed.
The actor portraying Beck’s son in the show is Johnny Berchtold, who recently turned 30 but appears much younger, around 20 years old. This age difference surprisingly benefited me as it allowed me to understand the love of a father more deeply. It was extremely helpful.
‘Reacher’ Isn’t the Only Place To See Anthony Michael Hall Play the Bad Guy
Fans might recall Anthony Michael Hall as the charming characters Farmer Ted from “Sixteen Candles” or Randy from “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” but throughout his extensive career, he’s portrayed a wide array of roles. For instance, he played the obnoxious bully Jim in “Edward Scissorhands,” the psychic teacher Johnny Smith in “The Dead Zone,” and reporter Mike Engel in “The Dark Knight.” Recently, Hall has taken on more villainous roles, such as Zachery Beck in Reacher and Senator Ezekiel Swann, a sinister character he played in 2024’s “Trigger Warning.
In a similar vein, Swann shares strong resemblances with Beck, as they are both propelled by an intense desire for power and control above all else. Hall characterized Swann as having a dark demeanor. It’s worth noting that Swann, being a father, had two sons, and their family embodies the concept of ‘darkness’ collectively.
When asked about his dual roles as a dastardly father in June 2024, Hall admitted,
I really enjoy adding personality and a touch of humor to my character designs, even for the villains. It seems to be happening more often, unintentionally, but I’m okay with that. The important thing is to continue creating.
