Netflix is preparing to release its upcoming high-profile, eagerly anticipated Korean drama titled “Boyfriend on Demand“. In this romantic series, the renowned K-pop star Jisoo from Blackpink has agreed to play a role. The story revolves around a young, overworked Korean woman who seeks refuge in a virtual reality dating platform where she encounters her ideal boyfriends.

In the show, Jisoo takes on the role of Mi-rae, an overworked webtoon creator yearning for another shot at love. Due to her busy lifestyle, she’s found herself in a dating desert. When fortune smiles upon her and she stumbles upon a mysterious “Monthly Boyfriend” gadget, she decides to take a chance and dive into a virtual realm, where she meets an array of unnaturally ideal partners, igniting dormant feelings for affection within her.

Or, in the series, Jisoo portrays Mi-rae, a harried webtoon producer who yearns for love’s second chance but has grown accustomed to solitude because of her demanding schedule. One day, she finds a mysterious “Monthly Boyfriend” device and decides to give it a go, stepping into a virtual world filled with impossibly perfect partners, awakening desires for romance that had long been dormant within her.

Renowned performer Seo In-guk (known for “Doom at Your Service” and “Café Minamdang”) is set to appear alongside Jisoo, portraying Park Kyeong-nam – a colleague and competitive webtoon creator to the character Mi-rae.

At work, he’s skilled and reliable, but Mi-rae finds him unsettling,” suggests the Netflix plot outline. “His aloof and frosty personality might give off an indifferent vibe, yet this character harbors unexpected mysteries that are bound to evoke feelings in Mi-rae.

In my gaming world, a movie titled “Boyfriend on Demand” catches my eye, helmed by none other than Kim Jung-sik, the mastermind behind the viral web series “Work Later, Drink Now” and the heartwarming “No Gain No Love”.

Netflix asserts that the movie “Boyfriend on Demand” will masterfully blend romance and humor, offering both heart-pounding emotional scenes and amusing moments.

Since their debut in 2016, Jisoo has been among South Korea’s most prominent pop stars, and her first solo track, titled “Me,“, was the first single album by a female Korean artist to sell over a million copies – an achievement made within merely two days after its release in 2023.

Over the past few years, Jisoo has been making a shift towards acting. Her debut leading role was in the romantic period drama “Snowdrop” (2021), which was manufactured by JCTB and marked Disney+’s initial significant success with a K-drama. Now, she’s starring in Coupang Play’s new romantic fantasy zombie series called “Newtopia”, where a former couple tries to reconcile amidst a Zombie outbreak that’s sweeping through South Korea. This show can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.

Boyfriend on Demand is set to join Netflix’s extensive Korean content lineup for 2025, boasting 22 scripted series, 8 reality shows, and 8 original films. Notable releases include the third and final season of Squid Game (due June 27) as well as a new season of Single’s Inferno.
