Marvel Rivals has unveiled details for its upcoming Season 1.5, which includes not only the introduction of Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm, but also modifications within the current game designed to alleviate player-expressed issues.
Apart from the adjustments in strengths and weaknesses for characters, NetEase is also introducing a ‘Hide Your Own Name’ option. However, one might wonder, what benefits would this bring to gamers?
Hiding Names on Marvel Rivals
In a recent developer update, it’s been announced that players can now temporarily conceal their names during matches in Competitive Mode. If you reach Diamond 3 rank, you’ll have the option to use this hidden name feature. When activated, your name won’t be visible to other players during the loading screen, hero selection, and the start of the match. After a brief period in the battle, your real name will reappear for all to see.
It seems that this action aims to prohibit individuals from imposing selective bans on specific players, an issue that has sparked much debate within the gaming community and was also a persistent concern in the Overwatch forums.
What is Target Banning?
As a devoted Marvel Rivals enthusiast, I often find myself strategically banning my adversary’s favorite characters in our matches, since I know they excel with those heroes. It’s all about the tactical advantage!
To conceal the identities of the players, the teams’ opponents will remain anonymous. This way, any decisions regarding hero bans will be less about exploiting individual player strengths and more about analyzing the overall composition of the teams.
How is the Community Reacting?
At present, the community appears satisfied with the new feature, and the majority of criticisms are from players who view a target-ban as proof of their exceptional skills in the game. While it’s common for gamers to have preferred characters, some argue that top-tier players should be able to switch characters based on different game situations.
In essence, certain gamers have previously addressed similar topics related to Overwatch, and it’s quite amusing that Marvel Rivals continues to revisit these older Overwatch debates such as the implementation of Role Queue and the matter concerning targeted bans.
Can’t Teach an Old Dog
Although Marvel Rivals is often referred to as Overwatch’s competitor, it appears that it has been trying to improve based on the missteps made by its predecessor. While there are certain aspects that the developers at NetEase are determined to maintain, it seems they are frequently looking over at Overwatch for solutions to the issues that Marvel Rivals is currently facing.
