Amazon to shutter its app store on Android after more than ten years on mobile

  • Amazon is shutting down its app store on Android
  • The service will remain available on the Fire TV and Tablet
  • Amazon Appstore launched all the way back in 2011

If you enjoy using the Amazon Appstore for Android, I regret to inform you about some disappointing news. According to reports from TechCrunch, Amazon is planning to close the appstore effective from August 20th of this year.

Reflecting upon the fact that the Amazon Store has been operational for more than ten years, it’s truly remarkable how they’ve sustained themselves. Yet, for the countless developers now distributing on the platform and their devoted followers, this longevity likely provides little solace.

Based on information from their support page, apps installed from the store on Android devices aren’t guaranteed to receive future updates or support. This suggests that you should not rely on these updates. However, it’s worth noting that the Amazon Appstore will continue to operate for Amazon’s proprietary devices like Fire TV and Fire Tablet.

Alternatively-

Funny enough, it appears that as alternative app markets start to grow, Amazon seems hesitant. To be fair, at the moment they aren’t particularly well-known for their app store, so I can understand why they might feel this way.

It seems that the lack of appealing features might be the cause, as Amazon hasn’t provided incentives to attract gamers or users, unlike the Epic Games Store, which offers advantages such as free games.

Regardless of the circumstances, it serves as another cautionary note that the support of a large corporation isn’t always guaranteed to be perpetual.

Regardless, don’t worry since if you’re looking for some fantastic new releases currently out, why not explore a few from our recommended list of the top five fresh mobile games to check out this week?
