Charlie Cox Debunks Avengers: Doomsday Rumor, Confirms Daredevil: Born Again Return

In a fresh turn of events, Charlie Cox will again star in his own standalone series titled “Daredevil: Born Again,” this time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) exclusively on Disney+. Yet, it’s important to note that he won’t be joining the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. While there were whispers about Cox reprising his role as the Man Without Fear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” set to be filmed later this year, these rumors have been addressed by the actor himself. Although this news may disappoint admirers of the MCU, at least he’s being transparent… or so we can assume.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cox clarified a post on Instagram by a fitness account that suggested he was preparing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ Previously, neither Marvel Studios nor the actor had commented on this claim. However, Cox recently confirmed that the individual who posted the image and caption must have been mistaken. According to Cox, he informed them that he was actually gearing up for ‘Daredevil,’ which is indeed accurate. Unfortunately, they misunderstood him, thinking he meant the next ‘Avengers’ film rather than ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2, set to begin shooting next month.

Over Christmas, I spent time with my family. On our final day together, they requested a photo with me, which we happily took. In conversation, I mentioned that I was preparing to portray Daredevil, as I indeed am! I’m set to appear as Daredevil in season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ Occasionally, people outside the entertainment industry may not fully grasp the terminology or context, but for some reason they shared this and labeled it as ‘preparing for his role in the Avengers,’ which is incorrect.

Once the post became widely shared, MCU enthusiasts swiftly picked up on the connection between the caption’s timing and the possibility of the beloved character appearing in Doomsday, potentially marking his Avengers debut during the Multiverse Saga. Given that this storyline is slated to introduce a fresh team of heroes, such speculation didn’t seem far-fetched. However, Cox promptly set the record straight, reaching out privately to Marvel rather than making a public statement. According to him, he contacted Marvel executives to dispel the viral rumor: “I had to inform my superiors, ‘I didn’t make that claim,’ clearly. Why would I do that?” Cox shared with EW.

The ‘Daredevil’ Is Down to Join the ‘Avengers’

Charlie Cox might have dismissed a viral social media post about him, but he’s definitely open to rejoining the upcoming Avengers films. In fact, he views it as a logical step in his character’s journey within the wider Marvel universe. Although nothing is officially confirmed yet, it seems that Cox is eager to continue portraying the MCU’s Daredevil for many years, both on and off screen. Following his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s no telling what might happen next. Here are his own words:

It’s a dream of mine to appear in an Avengers movie or a Spider-Man film, or something similar. Here are two main reasons why. First, I’ve developed a deep fondness for these characters over the years and feel it would be amazing if they could experience such an upgrade because of me. Second, I’m a bit of a comic book enthusiast, so the opportunity to contribute to the storyline in this way would be quite thrilling.

It’s great news that Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, has a secure future ahead despite not being in the Avengers films. With filming for the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” set to begin next month, Cox has made it clear he’s committed for the long term, assuming Marvel Studios agrees. In his own words, he’d love to see that storyline continue. Additionally, the upcoming series may introduce new vigilantes from a smaller superhero team, known as the Defenders, for Matt Murdock to lead.
