Renowned filmmaker James Cameron, celebrated for his grandiose productions and knack for creativity, is a titan in the film industry. He’s the mastermind behind one of the greatest science-fiction films ever made: Avatar. This series (available on Disney+ with a subscription) forms part of a five-picture strategy, aiming to narrate a unified tale about the Na’vi of Pandora. Recently, Zoe Saldaña disclosed a fact about the fifth film that left me feeling rather old (and astonished).
Information about “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is scant, but fans are eagerly anticipating the third installment due in December. With three more movies planned, the series will be gracing the big screen for an extended period. In conversation with Collider, Saldaña shared her thoughts on how long she’ll have portrayed Neytiri when it’s all said and done.
In my twenty-eighth year, I embarked on my first film, and if everything falls into place, I’ll be either fifty-three or fifty-four for the fifth and final one. It’s quite a blessing. To have the chance to revisit a character that has meant so much to me is truly a gift. To revisit a world that has been enchanting isn’t just a privilege for me, but for countless others around the globe. The Amazonian communities were among those who watched Avatar 1, and they found resonance in the stories that Jim [Cameron] told and felt represented in the narrative he shared. It’s heartwarming to be part of something so influential.
I find myself astonished, and a sudden urge to ask some youngsters to vacate my property arises. Over the years, the characters from Avatar and I have grown up side by side, and by the time the narrative concludes, we’ll both be quite elderly. It’s no surprise that there are such powerful emotional connections to Pandora.
The original “Avatar” film was released in 2009, and fans had to wait more than a decade for the first sequel, “The Way of Water,” to come out. Despite James Cameron and his team working faster lately, this long gap is one of the reasons why the entire Avatar series will consume a significant portion of Zoe Saldana’s life. However, she doesn’t appear to be displeased with how things have unfolded.
Zoe Saldaña, who was recently nominated for an Oscar, has risen to become one of the highest-grossing actresses of all time, thanks in large part to the success of the Avatar series. With her roles as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers, and years spent portraying Uhura in Star Trek, she has solidified her status as the reigning queen of big-budget blockbusters. We’ll be eagerly anticipating what becomes of her character Neytiri in the next three installments of the Avatar films. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too much longer for more of her on the big screen, as Fire and Ice is set to be released on December 19th as part of the 2025 movie lineup.
