Contains spoilers for “Chicago Fire” Season 13, Episode 13 — “Born of Fire”
Chicago Fire” consistently acknowledges its dedicated audience with subtle references now and then. The latest installment, “Born of Fire,” provides a more lighthearted storyline for characters Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), who have been dealing with intense personal issues, strained relationships, and perilous situations over the past few weeks. In this lighter scenario, they start discussing baby preparations for their upcoming addition – a significant plot point hinted at for several seasons. Additionally, they share quality time together, which eventually leads to Kidd requesting Kelly’s assistance in creating a new rope course for her Girls on Fire charity. Moreover, the couple subtly references their romantic relationship in an amusing way.
In a subtle nod to their popular fan base, affectionately known as ‘Stellaride,’ Kidd playfully inquires from her husband, “Don’t you know we’re called that?” Kelly, puzzled, asks who ‘they’ are. Kidd admits she doesn’t know, hinting at the shippers who have given them this nickname for years. Later, as Kelly attempts to help his wife, he stumbles into a fresh wave of problems.
Kelly has a bit of trouble getting the rope course done
In “Born of Fire,” Kelly spends the remainder of the story trying to decipher the intricacies of the rope course. Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) offers some suggestions, but it’s Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) who presents a novel approach for the physical challenge. His idea centers around Stella’s offspring being suspended from ropes off a ladder, and then ziplining their way down to the ground.
Stella looks quite surprised when she sees the final outcome. She exclaims, “I think you might have misjudged this one,” expressing concern since these children are very young and engaging in something potentially risky could be harmful to them. However, Pascal defends his idea, and eventually, Stella comes around to the belief that it’s a beneficial activity for their kids. It appears that Kelly’s endearing qualities have again managed to calm her down—solidifying the couple as the captivating duo known as Stellaride.
