Just like how Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe were seized by big corporations and streaming services, the James Bond franchise is now under Amazon’s control as they take over creative direction for 007. Jeff Bezos has even turned to social media, asking fans who they believe should be the next Bond, indicating a somewhat casual approach to such an esteemed franchise. Interestingly, it appears that the Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill is the one most desired by fans to don the iconic tuxedo.
Supporters of the actor, renowned for his roles in “The Witcher” on Netflix and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” alongside Tom Cruise (and inventor of the crowd-pleasing “arm reload”), have flooded social media with demands for Cavill to be cast as James Bond. “@ArthurMacwaters” on Twitter exclaims, “Cavill must get it! Anything else would be unjust!” Meanwhile, @Pendragos7 urges, “Grant Henry Cavill full creative control.
According to @TheGasStovee, in a sincere manner, Henry Cavill is deemed perfect for the role of Bond. @NicholasLissack agrees, stating that Cavill seems tailor-made for the part. Lastly, @LadyGravemaster urges Amazon to cast Henry Cavill as Bond for at least four films, promising the studio they would earn billions upon billions.
Is Henry Cavill Really the Right Choice for James Bond?
For years, Henry Cavill has been a top contender for the position of James Bond, with supporters often pointing to his portrayal of CIA Agent Napoleon Solo in Guy Ritchie’s version of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. as proof that he would excel as 007. Despite having come close to the role previously, with a leaked audition tape for the 2006 film Casino Royale, some criticized Cavill’s performance as stiff and lacking in charisma. However, these criticisms have not deterred fans from wanting to see him take on the lead role in the action series. While he fits the physical description, is he truly the best fit for the part?
There’s no clear frontrunner yet for who will take on the role of James Bond, but actors such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson (from “Bullet Train” and “Tenet”), Tom Hardy (“Venom”), and Theo James (“The Gentlemen” and “The White Lotus”) have been frequently mentioned in discussions since Daniel Craig’s era ended. These names were even brought up in response to a post by Jeff Bezos.
With Amazon now in control of the creative direction for the James Bond series, we might not have to wait as long as initially anticipated for its return. Given that Henry Cavill has a history with the studio and is set to star in both their Voltron film and Warhammer 40,000 series on Prime Video, there’s a chance fans of Cavill could see their wish fulfilled. However, it remains to be seen if this decision will prove to be the right one for the Bond saga reboot.
