After a long wait, the highly anticipated third season of “The White Lotus” has arrived! This anthology series, known for its setting at the titular White Lotus hotel in various vacation spots each season, now takes us to the opulent landscapes of Thailand. Renowned for its biting satire of global consumerism, “The White Lotus” continues to captivate audiences with impressive viewership, talented ensembles, and memorable dialogue.
The main actors for the latest installment of the traveling mystery series were unveiled in January 2024, sparking excitement among fans as they speculate about how Leslie Bibb, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michelle Monaghan, Aimee Lou Wood, and others will blend into their cherished universe. It was also disclosed that Natasha Rothwell, who portrayed Belinda in the first season, would reprise her role. Yet, there was one returning character that viewers didn’t foresee.
Wait, Was that Greg?
Indeed, I couldn’t believe it myself when I found out that the masterminds behind “The White Lotus” kept the return of Greg Hunt, the undeniably villainous ex-husband of Tanya McQuoid-Hunt, portrayed by Jon Gries, under wraps for another season. And yet, there he was, bald and scheming as ever, seated at the White Lotus hotel in his usual fashion.
On this occasion, he appears to be taking a new love interest, Chloe (portrayed by Charlotte Le Bon), to the hotel. Chloe introduces him to another key character, Chelsea (played by Wood), as they talk about the evasive boyfriends they are both dealing with at the resort. Just a brief look at Greg from Chelsea sparked excitement and anger among fans due to his immediate recognition.
Where Did We Last Leave Greg (and Tanya)?
In the first season, Greg and Tanya, both solo vacationers, encounter each other at the White Lotus resort in Hawaii. Greg, a bachelor who appeared smitten with Tanya, pursues her and reveals his terminal illness to her. Moved by compassion, Tanya consents to cover any expenses for his treatment. As a result, they decide to get married, so when we return for the second season, they are already wed.
In their marriage, trouble arises swiftly. On a vacation to the White Lotus in Sicily, both Greg and Tanya are accompanied by Tanya’s assistant. However, Greg finds the presence of the third wheel annoying, as does his patience with many of Tanya’s quirks and unconventional actions wear thin. Suddenly, Greg breaks the news to Tanya that he must depart from their trip for a few days to jet off to Denmark under the pretense of “work.” Prior to his departure, Greg is overheard by Tanya discussing her on the phone, labeling her as “clueless.
In secluded Sicily, Tanya encounters Quentin, a gay man (played by Tom Hollander). Initially, their friendship appears kind-hearted. However, things take an unexpected turn when Tanya joins Quentin on his yacht for a party. Upon boarding, she realizes the friendship might not be as benevolent as it seemed, and in a memorable TV moment, she cries out, “Oh dear, these men are trying to kill me!
It appears that Quentin is secretly working alongside Greg in a sinister plan to eliminate Tanya for her fortune. In an unexpected twist of events, Tanya manages to neutralize everyone on the boat using a handgun, thereby ensuring her own safety – or so it seemed. Unfortunate and ironically, Tanya accidentally loses her footing and strikes her head on the boat, resulting in her drowning.
He Cannot Get Away With This!
It appears that Greg has somehow obtained Tanya’s wealth, which he now flaunts extravagantly while living in Thailand with a model. His girlfriend, Chloe, confirms that he’s been there for at least a year. Interestingly, she refers to him as an “LBH,” or “Loser Back Home,” suggesting that he is one of many expatriates residing near the resort in Thailand.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but see a ray of hope in the form of Belinda for those longing to witness Greg’s downfall. It seems that their paths have yet to cross, and perhaps Greg remains unaware of her presence at the Thailand White Lotus resort, where she is gaining knowledge about its intricate practices.
She also developed a strong friendship with Tanya during Season 1, and she would undoubtedly recall Greg if they ever crossed paths again. To clarify further, it appears that his current girlfriend does not hold him in high regard, and he seems quite downcast. Will he face retribution? The answer lies in the hands of time (and seven more episodes).
The White Lotus is streaming now on Max, and new episodes come out on Sundays at 9 pm E.T.
