The sole method for staying secure is to be the last one standing.” This is how Shauna (portrayed by Melanie Lynskey) sets the stage in the Season 3 trailer of Yellowjackets, a gripping series revolving around a group of girls surviving in the wilderness. While some of these young women have managed to beat the odds and live into maturity, Shauna’s statement hints that their time together might be running out soon.
It appears that the third season of Yellowjackets might not conclude with just one survivor remaining. The series has hinted at some characters not making it much longer into the upcoming episodes. After careful consideration, we’ve speculated about which characters are most likely to survive until the end, taking into account their overall survival skills, character development, and significance to the Wilderness storyline.

New Players
As we delve into the primary list, it’s essential to mention a few secondary characters who could potentially find themselves in perilous situations. Among these are the enigmatic eighth survivor, Lisa, and Callie, daughter of Shauna. Given her past connections with the girls and the Wilderness, it seems plausible that this elusive eighth survivor would continue to be a target. Since Lisa and Callie were present on the night when Nat met her untimely end, they too might now pique the interest of those in the Wilderness.
Without sufficient details about the eighth survivor’s current status, we can’t predict how long they might continue to feature in the storyline (assuming they’re still alive, considering it’s been years since their rescue). Moreover, due to a lack of information, we can’t foresee what may happen to Lisa or Callie. However, Lottie appears to believe that Callie is connected to the others, as evidenced by her giving her Jackie’s necklace. Additionally, a recent statement from Taissa hints that additional individuals might be in danger.
Other Potential Victims
In Episode 3, Tai posits a connection between the waiter’s demise and the Wilderness. She labels him as a Sacrificed individual, implying that his heart attack may have been responsible for Van’s cancer remission. If this theory holds merit, it implies that the Wilderness’ fury could potentially encompass individuals beyond the Survivors. This means that people like Jeff, Walter, and even minor characters might be at risk, potentially being the next to face such consequences.

Van
Van was introduced later in the series Yellowjackets, with Lauren Ambrose’s character not appearing until the second season. Since reconnecting with the other survivors, she has reignited her relationship with Tai, reconnected with the wilderness, and most recently discovered that her cancer seems to be vanishing. While this may sound like positive news, there are several indications suggesting she might not survive for much longer – such as the numerous times she’s already come close to death.
Close Calls
Apart from her battle with cancer, Van has experienced several near-death incidents – she was attacked by wild animals, narrowly escaped a cabin fire, and almost asphyxiated in a cave due to gas. Similarly, Natalie survived numerous perilous situations, but ultimately met her demise at the end of Season 2. Given the pattern observed so far, it appears that Van’s cancer might be in temporary remission, hinting that a more severe threat may loom on the horizon.
In the course of their ritual, Van drew the card representing love – the Jack of Hearts. This card symbolizes what she’s discovered in the present moment. From a storytelling viewpoint, her relationship with Tai could be the culmination of her character arc. If this is the case, there may not be much more need for her to continue in the story, even though we might hope otherwise.
4
Lottie
In the wilderness, Lottie was a key figure among the group, and when portrayed by Simone Kessell as an adult, she played a crucial role in uniting everyone. Yet, after being institutionalized once more, much of her authority and command has waned. Compared to characters like Shauna and Misty, Lottie doesn’t possess many practical survival skills, at least not in the same capacity. Furthermore, her faith in the wilderness might make her willing to make a sacrifice or accept her fate if she draws the Queen of Hearts card.
A True Believer
Currently, Lottie appears keen on reaching out to Callie. Notably, she was the one who guided the women in Shauna’s search and managed to assemble many others at her commune. It’s plausible that she aims to collect more offerings for the Wilderness, or simply to unite people under her religious ideals. Regardless of her intentions, it’s worth mentioning that the Wilderness failed to save Nat despite her apparent special status, and we have a hunch that Lottie may face its wrath sooner rather than later.
3
Misty
In certain aspects, Christina Ricci’s character, Misty, appears to be a strong contender for the lone survivor. She’s clever, ruthless, and with Walter on her team, she seems unbeatable. However, similar to an unpredictable card in a deck, the Eight of Diamonds suggests she could be a wild card. Her future is uncertain, but there are two factors that lead us to believe she may not reach the finale.
Betrayal
It’s clear that Misty values her fellow survivors above most things, but unfortunately, this feeling isn’t reciprocated. They often overlook or belittle her, neglecting her messages and moments when she truly needs their support. Yet, despite the fact that her actions led to Nat’s death, it seems unlikely that she would intentionally harm any of them, even if she had a violent past in the Wilderness, and regardless of whether her life was at stake.
Furthermore, there might be scenes where Misty distances herself from the other women and becomes more attached to Walter. At first glance, this could appear to be a beneficial bond; however, we have good reasons to believe that Walter may not be a reliable ally. Consequently, if Misty manages to survive the ritual, there’s a chance Walter might end up harming her instead – a heartbreaking conclusion for a character seeking companionship.
2
Tai
Characterized by Tawny Cypress as Taissa, this character is known for her rationality amidst a group of diverse personalities, yet she’s not hesitant to take actions that serve her objectives. A pivotal moment in the series was when Tai potentially broke Allie’s leg, an incident that may have been unintentional but could equally be deliberate. Moreover, Tai’s narrative is currently multifaceted, involving her relationship with Van, her spouse and child, as well as the enigmatic “Dark Tai” persona that emerges during sleepwalking episodes. In essence, it seems unlikely that Tai will meet her demise in the near future. This prediction stems not only from her personal resolve but also the need for her character to continue contributing to the storyline.
A Heartbreaking Final Battle
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I must say that the bond between Tai and Shauna on the screen is undeniably solid and sincere – a friendship that seems unbreakable. If their confrontation during the Wilderness battle ever comes to pass, it would be challenging to bear witness. While Tai’s intellect (and possibly her political ties) could provide an advantage, so too could Dark Tai if she chose to intervene. Nevertheless, I have a feeling this is one battle Tai might not emerge victorious from, not because of any weakness on her part, but due to the exceptional caliber of her opponent.
1
Shauna
In the series Yellowjackets, although no single character can be definitively called the main character, Shauna stands out as the one most integral to the storyline. She is pivotal in moving the plot forward, from her childhood bond with Jackie to her adult relationship and murder of Adam. Not only does she hold significant narrative importance, but she also demonstrates an unquestionable ability to survive, having taken on the role of a butcher, endured the loss of her best friend and baby, and even killed to protect herself. Moreover, while the other characters hold varying degrees of faith in the Wilderness, Shauna is a non-believer, which provides her with an advantage the others do not possess.
The Enemy Embodied
In Season 2, Shauna came close to losing her life. This might suggest that her days could be numbered, especially if the Wilderness held the same power over Shauna as it did over others. Unlike Lottie, Tai, and Nat who were chosen by the Wilderness, Van was saved by it, and Misty seemed at peace within it, Shauna flat-out rejected the Wilderness. Although she survived by any means necessary, her actions weren’t driven by some supernatural command—she was just doing what was essential to stay alive.
Interestingly enough, Shauna proved to be the most adept at navigating the Wilderness, almost as if she was an extension of it herself. Moreover, on various occasions, she demonstrated a keen desire to lead, not only her fellow girls but also their surroundings. This leads us to question whether we underestimated the situation, and perhaps the upcoming conflict won’t pit Tai against Shauna. Instead, it may well be a battle between the Wilderness and the woman who can conquer it.
