Alright, let’s talk about Avatar: The Last Airbender because I have A LOT of thoughts.
I’m absolutely smitten with “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” I’m the go-to person for suggesting this fantastic series to anyone yet to watch it. I eagerly waited up and devoured the new live-action adaptation on Netflix, appreciating every moment of it – including the alterations made by the show. If you’re searching for a passionate fan who can delve deep into the intricacies of Zuko’s character development that stands as one of the most remarkable in history, then look no further than me.
I also find “The Legend of Korra” – the follow-up show that came out a while back – to be enjoyable as well. While some argue that “TLOK” surpasses “ATLA”, I’ve always been a fan of the original, and my affection for the first series remains unwavering.
And here’s the final thought I wanted to share: The latest show, “Avatar: Seven Havens,” has been causing some concern for me. So, let’s delve deeper into it.
I’m A Huge Avatar Fan And Have Been For Years, And I’m Really Excited For The New Show
As a passionate cinephile, let me express my sheer excitement once more for the upcoming series – Avatar: Seven Havens! Just heard the fantastic news that it’s officially moving forward with Nickelodeon’s approval, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter this week.
As an ardent enthusiast of the captivating world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival of this new series. Given that the original creators are back at the helm, my excitement levels soared from the moment I heard the news. Who wouldn’t be enthused by such a prospect?
What made it even more enjoyable was that I knew it would feature an episode centered around the Earth-bending Avatar, as its narrative adheres to the standard Avatar cycle. Being a fan who admires Earthbenders, particularly Toph whom I consider one of the coolest female characters, I was excitedly anticipating this.
But the announcement came…and I have to say I’m a little concerned.

But I’m Not Sure About This Two-Season Order
Speaking as a devoted fan who’s revisited these series countless times, I firmly believe that both “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra” required their respective number of seasons to narrate their stories effectively. It’s hard for me to fathom how they might have managed if “ATLA” had just two seasons or “TLOK” had only three.
This is why I am so confused about the two-season order for Avatar: Seven Havens.
Allow me to clarify: Although I believe the writers of the TV show are capable of creating compelling stories within a limited time span, given the plot they’ve presented, I must admit that it raises some doubts in my mind.
In “Avatar: Seven Havens,” as described by Nickelodeon, we are immersed in a world that has been torn apart by a catastrophic event, which was instigated by the previous Avatar, Korra (presumably deceased). The Avatar is no longer seen as a savior but rather as a destroyer by humans. This new Avatar, an Earthbending woman, is pursued by both human and spiritual adversaries. Now, she and her long-lost twin must join forces to prevent the impending downfall of their society.
I’m sorry, what?
It seems like you’re asking if it’s feasible to narrate an engaging story within just two seasons, consisting of 26 episodes, each lasting a half-hour, without hurrying it, allowing for character development, and maintaining a unique world that differs significantly from the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe we’re familiar with.
I genuinely do not think that is possible.
It seems that THR indicates that this is the first season, implying there might be additional seasons to follow, though they haven’t been commissioned yet. However, this information leaves me quite uneasy because the narrative appears to be a grand epic, and having only two seasons planned by Nickelodeon raises concerns for me.

I Want To Trust The Creators, But It’s A Little Concerning With How Well-Laid Out The First Show Was
Honestly, I have faith in the creators – Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Over the years, they haven’t let me down personally, and their dedication to this project is evident. Pondering about their creative process for hours doesn’t even begin to fathom their genius.
But at the same time… I’m anxious about my favorite franchise ever.
Avatar: The Last Airbender holds tremendous significance for me, transcending its status as an animated series and emerging as a true work of art. The intricate detail with which it was created, coupled with a storyline in the first season that is virtually unique, makes it a captivating experience. I find myself yearning to rewatch the entire series as if for the first time, eager to reignite my affection for it. I understand that others have formed deep connections with Korra, and I truly hope that Seven Havens can inspire similar feelings in its viewers.
However, it’s hard for lightning to strike twice, let alone three times.
In this fast-paced world, filled with the quick tempo of television series, I strive to ensure that ATLA doesn’t get swept up in that frenzy. Here’s hoping that Seven Havens can carve its own unique niche and stand out as a memorable creation. If not, I fear I might struggle to keep up.
