Mace Windu’s Shocking Alternate Death Revealed: You Won’t Believe Who Was Supposed to Kill Him!

Among the many emotional moments in the Star Wars series, none tug at heartstrings like Mace Windu’s death in Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, a scene streaming on Disney+. The image of Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Windu, soaring through a window is etched deeply into our memories. Surprisingly, Mace Windu’s final moments were initially conceived differently, with him being executed by a different villain instead of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Honestly, I think things turned out for the best as they did.

How Was Mace Windu Originally Supposed To Die?

As a passionate fan, I had the opportunity to hear directly from Daniel Logan, the young actor who brought Boba Fett to life in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” (2002), during GalaxyCon Richmond. During our behind-the-scenes chat with fans, he shared an intriguing perspective on a famous moment – Mace Windu’s demise.

Logan expressed his conviction that Boba Fett should have been the one to deliver the fatal blow to Mace Windu, considering the Jedi Council members, led by Mace, were responsible for the death of Boba’s father, Jango Fett. Intriguingly, George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, originally planned for that very scenario while penning “Episode III” years ago.

George Lucas initially titled “Revenge of the Sith” as simply “Revenge,” but the final title hadn’t been decided yet. I speculate it might have been “Revenge of the Fett,” considering there was a storyline, which you can find online, that included Boba Fett in another arena scene with Mace Windu, and a storyboard for this had already been created.

After going through these remarks from Popverse, you might be curious about how small-statured Fett could outmaneuver a seasoned warrior like Mace. However, according to Daniel Logan, the fight was strategically planned in a logical manner. This strategy can be traced back to what transpired between Jango and Windu (who should have had a more significant role in the Prequel Trilogy) during the occurrences of “Attack of the Clones”.

Mace Windu attempted to attack Boba in the same manner as he did with Jango, but since Boba had prior knowledge of the situation, I activated the jetpacks and performed a flip, flying upside down or on my back. While doing so, I drew Jango’s blasters and fired at Mace, striking him between his stomach. This was the intended fate of Mace Windu, leaving me quite thrilled. As I sat at Lucasfilm, they said, ‘We’re keeping you for a year.’ To which I replied, ‘Okay.’ I kept asking, ‘Is it my turn yet? Is it my turn?’

Indeed, the actor from New Zealand, known for his nomination for a Young Artist Award as Boba, didn’t get to perform the scene exactly as scripted, and it seems Samuel L. Jackson played a role in that alteration.

How Samuel L. Jackson Impacted Mace Windu’s Death, And Why I’m Glad About What What Played Out On Screen

According to Daniel Logan, the actor from “Pulp Fiction” expressed disapproval when it was suggested that his character be killed by a child in the Star Wars series. As Logan remembers, the award-winning actor voiced his strong feelings directly to George Lucas about this matter.

In a meeting with George Lucas, Samuel Jackson expressed his doubts, saying, “I’m not sure it’s right for this youngster to possess the power to eliminate someone on the Jedi Council. Furthermore, I don’t want to be taken out by some inexperienced kid.” It turns out he was referring to me.

In a straightforward manner, I’d say: Even though Daniel Logan’s portrayal of Boba Fett was impressive, it was fitting that Mace Windu perished at Palpatine’s hands. Given the grandeur of Windu as a character, his demise at the hands of such a powerful figure as the future Emperor adds to the drama. Admittedly, the thought of him being killed by Boba Fett in the climax of the Prequel Trilogy seems less impactful and somewhat unsatisfying.

Approximately 20 years after “Revenge of the Sith” was released in cinemas, Samuel L. Jackson has persistently argued that Mace Windu survived his fall and has proposed outlandish theories about this survival. In November 2024, there were rumors suggesting Mace would reappear, which evokes a mix of emotions. However, Jackson is open to reprising the role and expressed excitement about potentially leading his own Disney+ show.

Regarding Daniel Logan’s Boba Fett, the character resurfaced in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and during Season 2, young Fett attempted to assassinate Mace Windu. In Seasons 4, Logan reprised his role once more when young Fett returned. Despite my disappointment that Logan’s vision for Boba didn’t come true, I continue to believe in Mace’s demise. Nevertheless, Logan’s portrayal of the bounty hunter made a significant impact on the franchise, which can be streamed via a Disney+ subscription, including the movies.
