As I, a seasoned gamer, find myself immersed in the epic world of God of War, it seems my journey with Kratos is destined to continue. Rumors abound about an upcoming remastering of his Greek-era escapades for the PlayStation 5, and I can hardly contain my excitement!
According to reputable gaming source Jeff Grubb, there’s a strong possibility that a significant unveiling for the God of War series is set for March, marking the franchise’s 20-year milestone.
He believes this could be the long-rumored God of War Remastered Collection.
The rumor spread faster as more people suggested a new announcement was imminent. Notably, Krista Feranka, famed for his Spider-Verse movie artwork, announced on Blue Sky that he’s working on an Odin art piece for the game’s upcoming 20th anniversary event next month.
His post showcased not just any part of the game, but its distinctive logo. This logo is split between the two Omega symbols, symbolizing both the Greek and Norse periods in the series.

What’s Inside the Box?
Refreshed Edition might offer an opportunity to relive Kratos’ traditional Greek journeys, possibly encompassing the original God of War trilogy, as well as the handheld titles (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta), and even God of War: Ascension – a game that is often underappreciated within the series.
Is it just a Regular Remaster?
It’s uncertain to what degree this update will expand upon the original game, but it won’t involve a complete overhaul – that would necessitate substantial investment in terms of time, finances, and resources from Sony. Instead, it might resemble an upgraded version like the one Santa Monica Studio produced with God of War III Remastered for PlayStation 4.
Speculation
It would come as a surprise if Sony were to put together all six games into one large compilation instead of dividing them into two separate collections, which seems more plausible.
- Volume 1: The original trilogy — God of War, God of War II, and God of War III.
- Volume 2: The two PlayStation Portable prequels — Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta — with Ascension as the centerpiece. A well-executed remaster of Ascension could also bring back its underrated multiplayer mode.
Should Sony compile all six games into a single collection, it’s likely that the cost will be noticeably more than $40. A commemorative edition enclosing all the games within a replica of Pandora’s Box would be an apt homage to the original trilogy’s narrative.
At present, everything points towards conjecture, but with Grubb’s assertions, it seems quite likely that the series may resurface in some manner to celebrate its 20th anniversary. It’s possible we could even catch a glimpse of hints for the upcoming mainline God of War game, which allegedly takes place in ancient Egypt.
