Marvel Exec Teases Moon Knight’s Future In The MCU, And It’s Not How Fans Would Have Guessed

As a devoted film enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled to see Oscar Isaac make his mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by portraying Moon Knight in 2022, following his notable appearances as Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse and Spider-Man 2099 in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (and reprising this role in Across the Spider-Verse). This March will mark the third anniversary since Moon Knight first graced our screens as an MCU character, but there’s been no confirmation of his return yet. However, with Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum hinting at various plans being developed, I’m optimistic about the character’s potential future in an upcoming Marvel TV series or film.

According to Winderbaum, the chief of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel, although they currently don’t have plans for a second season of Moon Knight, this enigmatic character with multiple personalities will make a comeback eventually.

It seems Marvel Television has progressed in stages, and Moon Knight was part of a series of shows intended to introduce characters who would later interconnect. However, our focus is now on creating standalone series, more like traditional television programming. While I’d be thrilled about a Moon Knight Season 2, there are strategic plans for Moon Knight that will unfold in the future.

To be frank, I’ve long suspected that a second season for Moon Knight wasn’t on the horizon, and this suspicion has been reinforced by recent changes in the Marvel TV landscape, as Brad Winderbaum mentioned. Apart from Loki, none of the live-action TV series within the MCU have survived beyond a single season. Shows like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, among others, served primarily as stepping stones to introduce new characters or provide additional time with established ones before they reappeared in another movie. Given that Moon Knight was intended to introduce a new character, it seems unlikely that a second season would be forthcoming.

But now Marvel Studios is handling its TV shows with a more conventional hand, which resulted in development on Nova, Strange Academy and Terror Inc. being paused last week. For now, Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres next week on the 2025 TV schedule, reflects this strategy best, as it was creatively overhauled in late 2023 after a few episodes had already been shot. The Moon Knight series came from an era that’s now passed, but something is in the works that will bring the character back into play somehow.

I’m thrilled about this news for two main reasons. Firstly, I believe that Moon Knight stands out as the most self-explanatory Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) project to date. In fact, even someone unfamiliar with the MCU could easily follow along with the story of Marc Spector and his alter ego Steven Grant, given their entanglements with Egyptian gods. This aspect improves accessibility, but I’m excited to see how Moon Knight will interact with other MCU characters, particularly those who also have supernatural connections.

In the second instance, it was disclosed in Moon Knight’s finale that a third character named Jake Lockley existed, working alongside Khonshu and accountable for certain brutal acts during the series which Marc and Steven couldn’t recall. Regardless of whether Season 2 doesn’t materialize, this unresolved storyline ought to be tackled at some point in the future. It needn’t consume much time; I merely wish to understand how long Jake has been present and if Marc and Steven will eventually discover him.

Stay alert for any significant Moon Knight developments on TopMob. At the moment, I’m betting he’ll reappear in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, but there’s also a possibility he could show up in Blade as well.
