In early 2025, Laverne Cox revealed she wouldn’t continue her hosting duties for E!’s red carpet events, a position she held for three years. Now, she’s sharing additional insights on why she made this choice.
During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter at the NAACP Image Awards over the weekend, Cox highlighted her latest comedy series on Amazon Prime Video titled “Clean Slate,” along with several other acting ventures she’s got lined up for the future.

At the NAACP Image Awards last Saturday, Cox spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and brought attention to her fresh Amazon Prime Video comedy show, “Clean Slate,” as well as a number of upcoming acting roles she has planned out.
Or:
Last weekend at the NAACP Image Awards, Cox discussed with The Hollywood Reporter about her recently released Amazon Prime Video comedy series, “Clean Slate,” and some future acting gigs she’s got lined up.
The star commented that they’ve been so busy promoting Clean Slate that they wouldn’t have managed it if they were on the red carpet. Furthermore, while preparing for today’s Image Awards, they realized this was their first time getting ready for a significant award show red carpet without being overwhelmed by a multitude of note cards filled with talking points and name pronunciations. What they enjoy most about that movie is what stands out to them in this moment.”
Or more informally:
“The star said they wouldn’t have been able to handle the red carpet if they were doing press for Clean Slate. Today, while getting ready for the Image Awards, they realized it was their first time not stressing over a stack of note cards filled with talking points and name pronunciations. What they love about that movie is what really sticks out to them now.
I had started playing the Clean Slate theme song sung by Tony Award-winner Alex Newell and was enjoying Lady Gaga’s music when Tay [Rivera] walked in, expressing his love for Diana Ross’s Missing You. I was simply living my life as is, Cox added. It’s incredible to prepare for a red carpet event without the usual anxiety and stress! Kudos to you for making it possible. Life indeed seems wonderful on the other side.
In a post on Instagram in January, she shared her thoughts along with a video montage of her red-carpet interviews: “These clips take me back to the amazing opportunity I’ve had to discuss the work and challenges of some extraordinary artists. I’m thrilled about the chance to keep learning, changing, and seizing new opportunities as an actress, artist, host, and speaker. I look forward to you joining me on this journey of growth.
Actress Cox, who was nominated for four Emmys for her work on “Orange is the New Black,” took over as host from Giuliana Rancic in the “Live From E!” franchise.
