Be aware that the events of Tracker Season 2 Episode 10, titled “Nightingale,” have not yet unfolded in their entirety. This episode can be watched now by subscribing to Paramount+ streaming service.
In the upcoming episode for the year 2025, the Tracker assigned Colter Shaw a case in Minnesota that promised a substantial reward. Yet, he was still grappling with the aftermath of the midseason premiere and the confirmation, following a decade, that Gina Picket had passed away. Throughout the hour-long episode, he uncovered that the suspected murderous kidnapper, portrayed by Jim Parrack from ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’, was neither a murderer nor a kidnapper.
In conclusion, before receiving his $50,000 reward, Colter received a message from an unanticipated sender that seems to hint he is preparing to reconnect with Dory. According to Justin Hartley‘s remarks, this is the case! Let’s trace it back to where it all began, with “Nightingale.
What Colter Needed To Hear
At the beginning of “Nightingale,” Colter appeared so reserved that Velma could guess on the phone that Gina continued to linger in his thoughts after he had relentlessly pursued her for such a long time, but his demeanor improved when he took up the task of locating Ben, the suspected kidnapper. Worrying about Angela, the missing woman, Colter worked tirelessly to prevent any further harm. Ben’s grandmother was adamant about her grandson’s innocence regarding the deaths of two bikers and a cop, and against all expectations, she turned out to be right by the story’s end.
Ben didn’t abduct Angie; instead, he rescued her from a motorcycle gang member who was actually responsible for the deaths of the other three men. They were in hiding together, and Colter spent enough time captive to learn some survival skills similar to those that both he and Ben had acquired due to their upbringing. While conversing with Ben, Colter didn’t delve too much into the Shaw family history, but he certainly noticed some striking similarities.
In the end, they found common ground to suggest they could have been companions in a different setting. However, it was not Ben or Angie who held the message Colter required, but rather Ben’s grandmother. She shared with him:
It seems you two share many traits, I assume. I’m aware of the trials and tribulations Ben faced to become as resilient as he is. Somebody or something must have influenced you positively in a similar way.
As a passionate cinephile, I must admit that moment wasn’t filled with eloquent words from a character we know well, but the emotion was palpable when he teetered on the brink of tears at her words. It wasn’t just a poignant scene for the characters, but it seemed to resonate deeply with the actors too. Colter needed that heartfelt sentiment, and receiving it from someone he had only recently met made it all the more impactful.
In a remarkable turn of events, this week’s episode saw our protagonist, who had been relentlessly pursuing someone, finally achieving his goal without resorting to lethal force. This change in circumstances seemed to have eased a burden that had long hung heavily upon his shoulders. Compared to the desolate goodbye he shared with Camille during last week’s midseason premiere, he now exudes an air of resilience and determination, ready to embark on whatever comes next. It appears that the tumultuous Picket family tragedy, which has cast a long shadow over his life, is gradually fading into the past.
Hopefully, this implies a comeback to the enigmas surrounding the Shaw family! Hartley hinted at it when he referred to “personal matters” as the next “episodic aspect” of Tracker, posing many “questions yet unanswered.
What About Dory?
As a passionate movie reviewer, I recently had the privilege of chatting with the former star of “This Is Us” before the mid-season return. Interestingly, at this point, his co-star Melissa Roxburgh, who plays Dory in “Tracker,” had been avoiding his calls. Intriguingly, it was revealed towards the end of Season 1 that his on-screen sister knew more about their father than she had led him to believe.
Colter hasn’t delved deeply into the consequences of that revelation yet, but based on Justin Hartley’s statement, it seems like he might be preparing to tackle it soon. Despite his character being uneasy about certain aspects, Hartley shared that Colter has been dodging Dory’s calls concerning this matter.
It appears more and more evident to Colter that she might be hiding something from him, and he can’t fathom why that would occur. He’s unsure of the reason, but he’s resolved to uncover it. This situation reminds me of when he was overwhelmed with information last season, and I think he needed a moment to regroup and reflect, because he dislikes finding himself in the dark about what’s going on. In this case, I believe he’s in that same predicament, and it makes him quite uneasy.
For Colter, it was an “uncomfortable” situation when he encountered Dory without knowing about the play. However, following the resolution of the Gina Picket mystery and some introspection, there might be a suitable moment. When Colter and Russell reunited early in Season 2 with Jensen Ackles’ return, they chose to avoid delving too deeply into family-related issues at that time.
Given Dory’s story arc at the end of Season 1, it seems quite likely that she will appear again. Now, regarding Melissa Roxburgh and her potential return to Tracker this season, I posed this question to the main actor, and he indicated a positive outlook: Dory might make another appearance in Season 2.
Oh yeah, we’ll have her back. Yeah, I love Melissa.
It’s uncertain whether or when Melissa Roxburgh will return to Tracker, but her new show, The Hunting Party (also known as that), has already completed filming for its first season. I’d be thrilled if we could witness a Shaw family gathering featuring Justin Hartley, Melissa Roxburgh, and Jensen Ackles in the same episode. For now, it appears that Dory may have a bright future ahead. However, judging from the sneak peek for the upcoming episode, Colter might be facing issues more urgent than his father’s past. Tune in to CBS every Sunday for fresh installments of “Tracker” Season 2. The network has confirmed its renewal for the 2025-2026 television season, along with eight other successful series. Therefore, even if unforeseen events unfold for the Shaw family in the near future, audiences can rest assured that Colter will reappear for Season 3 at a later date.
