The highly popular crime-thriller series, Mirzapur, is set to expand into a full-length movie. Following the airing of its third season on the web last year, the producers made an official announcement, which included Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Abhishek Banerjee, and Divyendu. More recently, Tripathi shared some insights about the film’s current progress.
During a chat with The Indian Express, Pankaj Tripathi was inquired about his upcoming ventures, one of which is the much-anticipated Mirzapur: The Film. When asked for updates, the seasoned actor playfully revealed only a little, saying “A movie is being made, what else can I say.
As a lifestyle expert, I might rephrase that in this way: I was asked about the new crime-thriller we’re working on, and whether it delves into the past to explore the backstory of my character, Kaleen Bhaiya.
He admitted, “If I haven’t heard the story before, I don’t know what they’ll present to me… But since it’s only a 2-hour film, they’ll definitely show quite a bit. However, they’re not telling me just yet, so I don’t have an idea.
It’s noteworthy that a year ago, Ali Fazal shared details about the movie’s plot in an interview with the same publication. He divulged that the film would feature himself, Divyenndu, Pankaj Tripathi, and Abhishek Banerjee. Looking at the narrative, he hinted that it would be similar to revisiting the beginning and retelling the story.
In November 2018, the initial installment of the Mirzapur series debuted on Amazon Prime Video. After this, a second season launched in October 2020. Subsequently, by July 2024, the third season had been made available to viewers.
In 2026, the crime thriller movie named “Mirzapur,” which was both written and directed by Gurmmeet Singh, will be released. This film is a creation of Puneet Krishna and falls under the production banner of Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment.
