Following the debut of the movie “It Ends with Us,” stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have found themselves embroiled in a prolonged legal dispute. This conflict started when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and others towards the end of 2024. Since then, most of the back-and-forth has been between Lively and Baldoni/Wayfarer Studios. However, there’s some speculation about where this leaves Sony Pictures, the film’s distributor. A source suggests that Sony is in a difficult position at the moment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is involved in the distribution and co-financing of Colleen Hoover’s book-to-film adaptation. However, due to disagreements among two main actors on set, Sony has found itself in the role of a mediator. A seasoned studio executive, speaking anonymously, described the situation as chaotic, but Sony has not yet publicly commented on the ongoing issue.
In August 2024, whispers about creative disagreements between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively emerged. It was rumored that Lively ordered a different version of the movie, which later played in theaters. However, it appears that Baldoni wasn’t informed that his cut wouldn’t be shown, and he’s since stated that he didn’t watch the altered version until the film’s debut. One of the film editors confirmed that multiple versions of a movie are often made but chose not to comment on the controversy.
Blake Lively made allegations against Justin Baldoni, which included accusations of sexual harassment and creating difficulties for two other women. She also alleged that Baldoni and his associates orchestrated a negative campaign against her, leading to legal action against him and Wayfarer based on the same charges. Baldoni refuted these claims and subsequently filed a lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and others for purported extortion, defamation, among other things, seeking $400 million in damages. Additionally, he sued The New York Times (the original publisher of the accusations) for $250 million.
