Marvel Rivals Has a Flying Hero Problem

As Marvel Rivals Season 1.5 progresses, an increasing number of gamers are uncovering a fresh gameplay strategy focused on characters with flight abilities. The addition of The Human Torch to the team has led to a surge in aerial adversaries, leaving many players scrambling to find effective counters.

In Season 1.5, we have three characters who can fly persistently: Storm, Iron Man, and the recently introduced Human Torch. When these individuals gather in a common area, situations can escalate rapidly, particularly when the combatant (DPS) lacks precision in their attacks.

This issue arises predominantly at higher tiers, like Diamond and beyond. A case in point is Storm’s latest team-up skill with Human Torch, which amplifies her ultimate’s damage, reach, and duration, making her significantly more formidable. Given the recent adjustments to the triple-healer (Strategist) strategy, there are currently fewer tactics available to neutralize this lethal combo.

In an unexpected turn of events, the power of Iron Man’s Unibeam has seen a substantial upgrade. When boosted, it now inflicts 190 damage per second, and even without a boost, it deals a hefty 140 damage. This change is clearly a significant one, though some might question its necessity in his toolkit. Nevertheless, this enhancement will undoubtedly benefit skilled Iron Man players, as they can now rely less on Hulk’s Gamma Boost for added strength. Since Hulk is frequently banned in high-tier matches, this buff serves as a compensatory measure for his absence.

Currently, The Human Torch isn’t causing significant problems as players are still figuring out his abilities. However, there’s already buzz on social media about a new technology that can eliminate multiple opponents within seconds of a round beginning. If you want evidence, take a look at this video clip from X (previously Twitter).

An expert Damage Per Second (DPS) character can easily take down aerial heroes because they usually have limited agility to avoid incoming attacks. Moreover, healers find it challenging to assist them in higher locations, as healing necessitates a clear line of sight – and quite humorously, many gamers fail to consider looking up.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve noticed that when Duelists and Strategists seem to falter, it leaves room for the Vanguards to potentially take charge. However, in Marvel Rivals, there seems to be a missing piece – a reliable tank character who can effectively handle airborne threats. While Hulk’s leap attack and Bucky’s anti-air defense offer some potential solutions, they aren’t always consistent or dependable in these situations.

Next season, it’s possible that Emma Frost might bring a Vanguard character who can tackle airborne adversaries effectively. With potential newcomers like Jean Grey, Ultron, and Jia Jing joining the fray, let’s hope we don’t see an escalation of aerial dominance leading to chaos within the game. After all, NetEase has shown they take player concerns seriously by addressing various issues such as battle pass conversions, balance adjustments, and retracting mid-season rank resets. Perhaps in the future, there could be a balance update that keeps these flying heroes grounded.
