Kumail Nanjiani Sets Hulu Stand-Up Special

Kumail Nanjiani is returning to the stand-up stage, and bringing Hulu with him.

An Emmy- and Oscar-nominated actor and writer is set to add his talents to Disney+’s collection of comedy specials. This will be his second special ever, marking a decade since his first one, titled Beta Male, was aired on Comedy Central in 2013.

Since that time, Nanjiani has consistently acted in television shows like HBO’s Silicon Valley and Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales, as well as feature films such as The Big Sick, The Lovebirds, and Eternals. In addition, he and Emily V. Gordon were nominated for an Oscar for their writing on The Big Sick. He also hosted Comedy Central’s stand-up showcase, The Meltdown With Jonah and Kumail, from 2014 to 2016.

In addition to Nanjiani, Elan Gale, and Bernie Schaeffer will serve as executive producers for the upcoming Hulu special. ITV America and TheYearOfElan are responsible for its production. Further details regarding the release date and title of the special will be shared at a later time.

Hulu’s approval for Nanjiani’s stand-up special marks another step in their expansion into comedy under the “Hularious” label, which began with Jim Gaffigan’s “The Skinny” in November. Since then, Hulu has released specials from Ilana Glazer, Roy Wood Jr., and several others, including Ralph Barbosa, Bill Burr, Chris Distefano, Zarna Garg, Jessica Kirson, Matteo Lane, Sebastian Maniscalco, Atsuko Okatsuka, Frankie Quiñones, and Andrew Santino.
