Chris Pratt hasn’t ruled out reprising his character Peter Quill in future Marvel movies, but he’s laid down certain requirements. During a recent red carpet event for his new Netflix release, the actor hinted at what might convince him to play Star-Lord again, suggesting that the studio faces a significant challenge in finding someone suitable to replace James Gunn as director for another Guardians of the Galaxy film, stressing that they’ve got some “big shoes to fill” in this regard.
At a grand premiere event for his 2025 movie, “The Electric State,” Chris Pratt, famous for his role in “Jurassic World,” shared with ComicBook insights about reprising his role as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who are all known by their first names, specifically “James.” Pratt elaborated on the difficulties and requirements involved in this return.
1) Sure, working with James sounds appealing, but unfortunately, he’s currently entangled in a conflict of interest that prevents us from collaborating right now. As for other possibilities, I’m open to suggestions. However, any project would need exceptional storytelling and it would be quite challenging since he sets a high standard.
This version retains the main ideas while using more natural and easy-to-read language.
The long-time star from “Parks and Recreation” is right on this—Marvel Studios faces a significant hurdle if they intend to carry on Star-Lord’s tale without James Gunn. The director’s unique blend of humor, emotion, and cosmic grandeur was instrumental in the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, making it challenging for another filmmaker to fill his position.
As a dedicated fan who’s followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe journey from its inception, I must say that James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films have always left an indelible impression on me. It’s intriguing to note how these characters seemed slightly different when they appeared outside of Gunn’s films. Their appearances in other MCU projects often sparked a sense among fans that something was amiss, underscoring the profound impact of Gunn’s creative vision. His work has not only made the Guardians some of the most beloved Marvel movie characters but also crafted what I believe to be the finest space westerns ever brought to life on screen.
The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 leaves Peter Quill’s future vague, as he goes back to Earth to rekindle his relationship with his grandfather. A scene after the credits hints at “The Epic Star-Lord will return,” indicating Marvel’s plans to delve deeper into Quill’s escapades. However, since Gunn moved to DC Studios, it’s unclear where Star-Lord’s narrative is heading next.
The actor who played Passengers is open to reprising his role, but only if the storyline and creative team are strong – this is typical after completing a trilogy. He’s also shown interest in working with Gunn again, potentially within the DC Universe. In an interview with Rolling Stone in May 2023, Pratt expressed this desire to reconnect.
It seems more logical for me to reprise the role of Star-Lord. However, all things are possible, and given that James Gunn is now with DC, there might be a suitable fit over there. Perhaps it could be a joint venture. I believe wholeheartedly that it could be both scenarios.
I’d be thrilled to have “The Legendary Star-Lord” come back, but I could equally support the veteran voice actor from “Mario Bros.” appearing in an upcoming DC movie, provided Gunn is at the helm. However, having elements from both scenarios sounds appealing as well.
Regarding the upcoming film “The Electric State,” starting March 14, 2025, it will debut on Netflix. Directed by the Russo brothers, known for their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this movie is an adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, making its transition from book to screen. The cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Ke Huy Quan, and Stanley Tucci, among others. This film narrates the journey of a teenager played by Brown, who searches for her missing brother across a futuristic landscape, accompanied by an enigmatic robot.
