Michael Wolff has been writing books about President Donald Trump for four years now. His most recent one is “Landslide” from 2021, which followed “Siege: Trump Under Fire,” released in 2019, and that was published shortly after his popular book “Fire and Fury,” which hit the shelves in 2018.
Today, we’re finally receiving an intriguing account called “All or Nothing“, shedding light on the secretive activities that led to Trump’s surprising victory in 2016. Despite not being a favorite of author Michael Wolff — who Trump once referred to as a “total LOSER” on Truth Social — early pages we’ve glimpsed reveal insights into Trump’s tumultuous connection with media tycoon Rupert Murdoch. As usual, Wolff doesn’t hold back and shares plenty of interesting details.
After the events of January 6th, you may remember that Murdoch initially distanced himself from Trump, but later reconsidered when it seemed possible for Trump to regain the presidency. According to Wolff’s account, Murdoch made numerous attempts to revive their past relationship. It’s mentioned that Trump began making jokes about how often Murdoch, being 93 years old, would forget that he had already called him the previous day. There’s an awkward scene where Murdoch introduces Trump to his new wife, Elena Zhukova. Murdoch excitedly mentions that she is Russian, seemingly playing the “Slavic bond” card.
As reported by Wolff, Murdoch’s attempts to win Trump back on occasion backfired. In March, Murdoch believed he could impress the then-candidate by having the New York Post publish a headline stating that Trump was attending a wake for a slain New York police officer, while at the same time presidents Biden, Obama, and Clinton were raising money at a nearby $25 million fundraiser. However, according to Wolff’s writing, Trump apparently misunderstood the headline, becoming angry and incredulous about the $25 million. He allegedly expressed his frustration to aides by shouting, “How could that be? This is fake. It has to be fake. If they’re really doing such good business, what does that mean? It means I have shitty people.
Additionally, there’s an insider account about the opinions within Trump’s group regarding his close relationship with Fox News personality Sean Hannity, especially following January 6th, when the network’s owner was still upset with Trump. According to Wolff, many in Trump’s circle saw Trump as the unsuspecting character, the well-meaning team captain on the high school squad, while they perceived Hannity as the cunning individual skillfully manipulating the naive big guy.
It’s also worth noting that there are reports indicating Murdoch lobbied for Mike Pompeo to be selected as Trump’s VP instead of JD Vance, a suggestion which seemed unlikely at best. Additionally, we have insights from a meeting between Trump and Murdoch along with his senior team during the campaign, in which Trump criticized Fox News for airing Kamala Harris ads. Trump specifically targeted Murdoch, accusing him of betrayal following the firing of Roger Ailes, who was dismissed due to sexual harassment allegations in 2016. In Wolff’s account, Trump claimed that Ailes would never have let him down as Murdoch had. Furthermore, during a meeting with the editorial board of Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal around the same time, Trump expressed a long-standing list of complaints against the paper, stating that it had been wrong on numerous occasions while he had been right.
Without a doubt, this content has more than enough Trump-related chaos to captivate and unsettle readers, Wolff’s fans included, for approximately the next half year – just around the time when his upcoming book is expected to hit the shelves.
