Sandeep Reddy Vanga slams big production house that rejected Kabir Singh actor because he worked in Shahid Kapoor, Kiara Advani starrer

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for successful films like Kabir Singh, recently disclosed a surprising incident involving an actor from that movie during an interview on Game Changers with Komal Nahata. In the initial segment of this conversation, Vanga divulged that an actor from Kabir Singh was turned down by a major film production house in Mumbai when he went to audition for them, solely due to his association with Kabir Singh.

As an ardent admirer, I must confess my disappointment when Vanga refrained from disclosing the name of the production house or the talented actor he was referring to, but vented his displeasure with the industry’s inner workings. This secretive director shared a tale of woe where this gifted performer was turned down – purely due to his association with Kabir Singh, a film that stirred up heated discussions following its debut.

In spite of its triumph, with Shahid Kapoor delivering an acclaimed portrayal as the lead character, the movie wasn’t spared from criticism for its depiction of problematic masculinity. This dichotomy between success and controversy is what left this artist feeling the sting of rejection – a reality that often plagues the film industry.

It’s said that the actor allegedly contacted Sandeep Reddy Vanga to share his decision of rejection. In response, Vanga voiced his concerns about the alleged bias in this situation. He stated that if the production house enforces such stringent policies against actors associated with Kabir Singh, they should apply these rules consistently to other prominent stars who have collaborated with him on different projects. Essentially, he suggested that they should advise those big stars not to work with Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, or Triptii Dimri, and also not to collaborate with Vishal Mishra, the artist who created a song for him.

I voiced my displeasure, stating that I empathized with the actor who was merely striving to progress within the field, by constantly putting himself out there through auditions. I denounced the casting agency for judging the actor based on his previous performances instead of his inherent abilities.

2019 saw the release of Kabir Singh, a re-telling of Arjun Reddy (originally a Telugu film by Vanga), which has stirred debate due to its portrayal of problematic male behavior often associated with toxic masculinity. Despite its financial success, this movie remains a subject of controversy.
