Renuka Shahane recalls being on Hum Aapke Hain Koun sets during her funeral scene; ‘They shooed me away…’

More recently, Renuka Shahane looked back at her career after Hum Aapke Hain Koun and explained how the movie solidified her as the quintessential neighborly girl. In a recent conversation, she candidly discussed the challenges of being stereotyped following such an iconic part. She reminisced about being on set during the filming of her funeral scene and divulged, “They told me to leave the set, we’re trying to work now.

During a chat with Filmy Shilmy, Renuka Shahane affectionately shared a funny anecdote from the filming of Hum Aapke Hain Koun. Specifically, she reminisced about a scene where her character attended a funeral on set.

Instead of being engrossed in the intense emotional ambiance alongside her fellow actors and crew, who were weeping before her character’s picture, she stood on set, watching the unfolding scene with a smile.

As others watched her response, they found it humorous and noted that she was giggling during a crucial, somber scene. Later, she was requested to depart from the set so they could concentrate on their tasks at hand.

Additionally, she shared memories from shooting her final scene and recalled how deeply moved Reema Lagoo (the actress playing her mother in the movie) became during the hospital scenes.

Shahane mentioned that after the part where her character, Pooja, died on screen, Lagoo found it extremely difficult to cope and struggled to regain control of her emotions. It took some effort for her to understand that this was merely a fictional death, not a real one.

Renuka shared that directors always overlooked her when it came to roles with complex or unpleasant characteristics, which she felt was limiting as an actress because she yearned to delve into a variety of characters.

She shared how a specific role had such a powerful effect on her career that it largely determined the roles she received on TV, often portraying women who resonated with audiences and upheld traditional Indian values. Interestingly, she acknowledged that she was fine with being stereotyped.
