Currently, WB Games finds itself in a challenging phase following the underperformance of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” and the termination of the “Wonder Woman” video game project.
Despite the current circumstances, there remains optimism for what lies ahead, as the leaders of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, have expressed readiness to develop a DC version of a popular live-service game that has recently gained success.
Marvel Rivals for DC
According to a recent update from Brandon Davis at a press conference (he represented DC Studios co-heads), they have plans for their franchise that may involve creating a DC version similar to the game “Marvel Rivals”. However, Davis did not share specifics about these plans.
Although there’s no active project ongoing (as far as we are aware), the duo are rumored to be in discussions with multiple video game creators, deliberating about DC’s gaming future. A verified partnership has been established with Epic Games and their game, Fortnite, where they plan to introduce a playable Superman character inspired by the upcoming James Gunn movie.
What would a DC-based Overwatch Look Like?

At present, Marvel Rivals is holding its ground against the original hero shooter, Overwatch. Both games are so evenly matched that it’s perplexing as to how DC could differentiate itself – aside from featuring popular DC characters such as Superman and Batman for gameplay.
Marvel Rivals appears to have a strong resemblance to Overwatch, from its free-to-play business model to the character designs that often lean towards the “Gooner” style. Although mimicking the game’s format is straightforward, it might be worth considering for WB Games to differentiate the DC version by focusing less on purchasing cosmetics and more on incorporating the loot box mechanic similar to the original Overwatch.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that many games are leaning towards the more realistic aesthetics of titles like Injustice, but it appears that the stylized, comic/anime look is currently all the rage in game design. This approach seems to make it simpler and more efficient to create various cosmetic options for characters.
DC has Never been Short of Games

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the glory days of DC in the gaming world, especially when Marvel seems to be dominating the scene with their latest release, Rivals. Back then, DC had a strong presence, notably through the smashing success of the Arkham series and the electrifying fighting games from NetherRealm Studios like Injustice. Interestingly, even before Marvel Rivals was announced, DC characters were already playable in the now-defunct MultiVersus game.
To be honest, the recent DC titles haven’t been creating too many waves of excitement among fans like me. The releases of “Gotham Knights” and “Suicide Squad” didn’t exactly set the world alight, and there’s been no word on a new installment in the “Injustice” series yet.
There’s been talk suggesting that Rocksteady might develop a Batman Beyond game, but doubts linger about how it would deviate from their traditional Arkham series. This uncertainty arises due to the shared genetic code between the unsuccessful Gotham Knights and the Arkham titles.
Some people wonder if a Batman Beyond game created by Rocksteady will be different from their usual games, as there were similarities in the failed Gotham Knights and the Arkham series.
As of yet, there’s no formal announcement regarding a DC-themed Overwatch game, however, fans can engage in Marvel Rivals, which is currently accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and personal computers.
