Finally, the moment has arrived! I, as a diehard movie buff and devoted Survivor fan, can hardly contain my excitement as Season 48 of this legendary reality show graces our screens tonight, exclusively on CBS. The anticipation is palpable, with viewers already speculating about what’s to come in Survivor 49. One name that has sparked a frenzy among fans is a well-known celebrity who’s openly professed his admiration for the show and conveniently happens to have a gap in his tour schedule – fueling rumors that he might be joining us on this tropical adventure. But fear not, fellow Survivor enthusiasts! Our beloved host Jeff Probst, who continues to stand by the show after all these years, has finally shed some light on the matter.
Before the debut of “Survivor 48,” its Emmy-winning host spoke with TVLine to dispel the rumors about the casting for “Survivor 49.” Contrary to internet speculation, Dierks Bentley will not participate in the upcoming season. However, it doesn’t mean that there was no discussion between Bentley and the show. As Probst clarified, there had been a conversation, but Bentley won’t be competing.
It was reported that Dierks Bentley would appear on the show, but that’s not true. We did invite him for an interview, and he expressed interest for a future conversation, saying, “Perhaps some time in the future.” I believe he was sincere, but he declined our request for now.
Speculation about Bentley potentially joining Survivor gained traction following Probst’s hint in an interview that discussions had taken place with a well-known figure. Bentley’s open admiration for the show and a timely break in his schedule fanned the flames of anticipation. However, those eager to watch “What Was I Thinkin’” singer endure the wilderness may be let down, as he has yet to definitively rule out a future participation.
It’s not surprising to think about famous personalities participating in Survivor, but the long-running reality TV show has clarified that they are not aiming for star casting. The host of Survivor stated that even though many celebrities have expressed interest in the past, their fame doesn’t guarantee them a spot on the show automatically. He further emphasized:
[…] he doesn’t give special treatment to famous individuals just because of their reputation.
I’m willing to feature celebrities on the program if they fit well with our show. We carefully select individuals who resonate with our audience. I’ve had several famous figures reach out to me expressing interest, but some just don’t align with our vision. It’s not about casting big names; it’s about finding the right personalities that will enhance our content.
Probst highlighted Mike White, the creator of “White Lotus” and filmmaker who significantly impacted “Survivor: David vs. Goliath” in 2018, as an illustration of the type of celebrity contestant that succeeds. Despite already being a successful Hollywood writer, White’s fervor for the game and engaging gameplay made him a suitable choice for the show.
Currently, the lineup for Survivor 49 is still under wraps, but eager fans won’t have to wait too long as preparations progress. In the meantime, Survivor 48 starts tonight, Wednesday, February 26, at 8/7c on CBS or with a Paramount+ subscription. One thing that can be guaranteed about this season is that it will deliver another round of intense gameplay and treacherous alliances, much like the finest seasons of Survivor.
