In a recent episode of The F—ing News, he expressed his discontentment with the current political climate in the United States, stating that he believes the nation is losing its fundamental values. When asked about the new administration, Cameron described it as if one were repeatedly witnessing a car accident.

He expressed: “I find this appalling, I find it terrifying.” He continued: “There seems to be a shift away from all that is good. America loses its identity if it doesn’t uphold what it has traditionally represented. It becomes an empty concept, and I believe they are eroding it as quickly as possible for their own gain.

James Cameron, renowned for directing films like the Titanic and Avatar, expresses his discontent with the current political scenario in the United States. He anticipates becoming a New Zealand citizen soon, despite being born in Canada and previously residing in California. Currently, Cameron calls Wellington, New Zealand’s capital, home, having spent a significant amount of time there since 2005 when he started developing Avatar. For Cameron, securing this citizenship holds great significance.

To truly settle down somewhere new, it’s crucial not only to invest financially but also to actively participate and contribute to the community. “I honestly don’t need to read about it in the headlines every day. It’s just nauseating. I appreciate that New Zealand newspapers sometimes move the story to page three. Honestly, I can’t bear to see his face on the front page of the newspaper anymore. It feels like a constant replay of a car accident.

Over the past few years, New Zealand’s political landscape has shifted noticeably, deviating somewhat from its traditional track record of liberal policies. The most recent elections suggest a trend towards more conventional ideologies. The current Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, is known for his conservative social views and aligns himself with the right wing of the political spectrum.

In 2023, during a press gathering, Cameron disclosed his intention to continue filming movies in the country permanently, while also discussing his forthcoming citizenship. The production of Avatar remains ongoing: the third chapter, titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash“, is currently undergoing post-production. According to Cameron, early spectators of his recent work found it to be the most emotionally impactful and potentially superior to the other two Avatar films.
