‘Train To Busan’ Director Yeon Sang-ho Signs with WME (Exclusive)

Movie director Yeon Sang-ho, famed for creating the cherished “Train to Busan”, has secured representation by WME across all fields.

Following the success of his inaugural live-action film, the 2016 zombie thriller Busan, which earned over $98 million on a budget of just $8 million, Yeon Sang-ho has emerged as one of Korea’s busiest and most successful filmmakers. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s review of Busan, the film demonstrates exceptional skill in establishing spatial relationships between characters, making it easy to always understand where they are in relation to each other. Essentially, if the main objective of Train to Busan was to leave a strong impression on potential investors with larger budgets, then this film will undoubtedly do just that.

Since then, Yeon has been responsible for directing various projects, including the television series “Hellbound” and the feature “Jung-E”, both produced by Netflix. Additionally, Yeon directed the sequel to “Busan”, titled “Peninsula”, which was selected as an official entry at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival.

Besides directing films, the filmmaker is also responsible for creating productions through his company, WOWPOINT. This Seoul-based production house, headed by Yoomin Hailey Yang, has been instrumental in bringing to life popular Netflix Korean mystery thriller, “The Bequeathed“, and the manga adaptation, “Parasyte: The Grey“.

Next, Yeon will work on “Revelations,” an Alfonso Cuarón executive-produced movie based on her original idea. This movie revolves around a pastor and a detective who join forces to solve a missing persons case that is set to premiere on Netflix in March. Additionally, Yeon has plans to write and direct the English-language action horror film titled “The 35th” for TriStar Pictures.
