Bill Maher has an idea for a new show: “The Real Housewives of the White House.”
In the opening scene of the latest episode on HBO, the host provided his thoughts on the heated argument that occurred between President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier on Friday.
As for any updates, not really much happening here. Can’t think of anything at the moment, but hey, let me tell you about my latest conquest in virtual World War III! We’ve switched sides this time around.
During a meeting in the Oval Office, the three leaders engaged in a heated exchange, culminating in Zelensky being asked to depart from the White House. The initial encounter between Trump, Vance, and Zelensky took place prior to discussing a minerals agreement (that was never finalized), which Trump claimed would have brought Ukraine closer to ending its conflict with Russia. However, as reported by the Associated Press, the conversation took an aggressive turn during the last 10 minutes of the meeting, with Trump criticizing Zelensky.
Trump cautioned Zelensky during their meeting, stating that his actions could potentially lead to a third world war, which is highly disregardful towards the nation that has supported him more than many people believe it should. On the other hand, according to the Associated Press, Zelensky’s primary goal in this meeting was to convince Trump not to abandon Ukraine and to advise against getting too closely aligned with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Before playing a clip where things got heated on “Real Time”, Maher warned, “This turned into a screaming contest, which I’m guessing Trump finds entertaining for television.” Later on, he labeled it as “The Real Housewives of the White House”.
Later on during the broadcast, Maher convened with Rahm Emanuel, a previous White House Chief of Staff and Chicago’s mayor, as well as Fareed Zakaria from CNN, to discuss their thoughts on the heated gathering.
As a gamer, let me say this: It’s oddly saddening to witness the U.S. President and Vice President treating someone who relies on the U.S. for existence with disrespect, bullying, belittling, and manipulation. But what’s more concerning is that, over the past century, the U.S., whether it stood by Britain in critical moments or supported its allies during World War I, has always made its moral and political stance clear. It was a beacon for those under attack, a supporter of democracies, and an adversary to dictatorships and aggression.
He went on to say, “What struck me was this strange reversal of morals… It was undeniably evident that Trump seemed far more at ease and understanding with Vladimir Putin.
Emanuel backed up Zakaria’s comments, adding, “This will not work with the American people.”
Our foreign policy has traditionally been a mix of internationalism and isolationism, but now it’s either about upholding principles or acting in a predatory manner. I don’t believe the American people want to view themselves as exploiters who take resources at any cost, or as those who seize territories like Greenland for certain prices. This is not how Americans see themselves, especially not with the current approach and conduct.
Chrystia Freeland, previously Canada’s Finance Minister and a contender for the Liberal party leadership, made an appearance on the most recent edition of “Real Time” as well.
