Bill Burr is more than a “Paper Tiger” to comedy fans.
The Boston native’s counter-culture jokes helped pave the way to superstardom.
He certainly wasn’t a traditionalist, but what made him stand out among mainstream comedians was his boldness in criticizing the subtle influences of progressive ideologies, often referred to as “woke.
In 2019, his Netflix stand-up show titled “Paper Tiger” served as confirmation. He was associated with an alternative comedy collective that included Tim Dillon, Shane Gillis, Theo Von, Tyler Fischer, Chrissie Mayr, and others.
Refreshing. Real. Raw. Honest.
Necessary.
And then Burr co-wrote, directed and starred in “Old Dads.”
In 2023, Netflix featured him in a comedy role as an older father whose traditional parenting methods contrasted with contemporary values. The movie appeared to be a sharp critique for those who advocate for progressive values, contributing to the demise of R-rated comedies and silencing stand-up comedians.
Think again.
The last part of the movie seemed to shy away from a more traditional approach, instead favoring a more progressive perspective, as opposed to Burr’s classic style.
That was a sign.
In the realm of cinema criticism, allow me to share my thoughts on a recent statement made by Burr concerning the California wildfires. Rather unexpectedly, he assumed a defensive stance towards anyone leveling criticisms at Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of incompetence.
He compared the fires to someone who is not qualified managing the most severe wildfire in Los Angeles, as if an internet user in their underwear could do a better job.” (Jimmy Kimmel Live, he stated.)
Making sense of the connections isn’t difficult; numerous accounts have highlighted how California Democrats exacerbated the wildfires in various ways, such as reducing funding for local fire departments and implementing controversial water management strategies. Meanwhile, Governor Newsom diverted funds towards undocumented immigrants, while fire prevention measures faced neglect.
Additionally, a well-respected comedian might criticize Bass for not being present when the fire started due to his absence overseas.
Not Burr. He came out looking dumb, to be blunt.
More recently, Burr blasted billionaires in the most ignorant manner possible.
In simpler terms, Burr stated, “There are many individuals facing hardships due to these wealthy individuals, yet we continue to argue between liberal and conservative viewpoints. It’s time for us to stop this division. I am exhausted hearing about people worrying about the future each night.
He was simply getting started, he explained. Nowadays, it’s necessary for many individuals to hold down multiple jobs in order to keep afloat. This situation can be attributed to… the influence of a billionaire.
Because the children aren’t seeing their parents, and they’re not getting the proper upbringing they need. These billionaires… They should be restrained, like rabid animals.” (Burr said)
Or
The kids are missing out on parental guidance because they can’t see their parents. These billionaires… It would be best if they were kept under control, similar to rabid animals. (Burr stated)
The humor in Burr’s rant is most effective when there’s a hint of reality at its core. Can you identify the realism in his criticism? In truth, the capitalist system that generates those wealthy magnates has benefited Burr to some extent.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the divide among American citizens, and I believe it’s time to call out those who contribute to this rift. Instead of merely pointing at billionaires, we should also examine the role that legacy media outlets play in fueling discord. They routinely stir up dissent, and it’s high time we address this issue.
Do you recall instances where journalists coined terms like “white Hispanic” or propagated the “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative, which stirred racial tensions after the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown respectively? Or how they spread falsehoods in these cases?
Afterward, reflect on the strategies employed by liberal media outlets such as late-night TV shows and “The View,” where they seem excessively determined to foster dislike towards rural or conservative areas of the United States.
Burr doesn’t care, apparently.

On a previous occasion, he humorously suggested violent action. Recently, he expressed admiration for Luigi Mangione, who was charged with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson towards the end of last year.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to see the current apprehension among CEOs. Indeed, they ought to feel uneasy! In essence, many of them appear more focused on self-interest and accumulating wealth, rather than considering the broader impact on society.
In this gripping film, I find myself questioning not only the targets of our protagonist’s criticism but also the depth of his contemplation. This time around, it’s not just the elite billionaires who are under scrutiny, but even CEOs find themselves in his crosshairs. One can’t help but wonder if he ever pauses to ponder the consequences and implications of his fiery speeches.
Currently, he’s criticizing Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, in a very harsh and provocative manner. He likened Musk to Adolf Hitler, asserting that Musk himself flagged one of his posts on X, which suggested that Musk’s awkward inauguration gestures were akin to a Nazi salute.
He unleashed this rant on his latest “Monday Morning Podcast” episode.

That child is acting just like Hitler…He may not be originally from here, but he’s from South Africa. Upon arriving in this country, he seeks to establish a tyrannical regime…he appears to hold little regard for our right to democracy.
Consider the scenario: ‘Why not give it a try, making up my mind to alter the type of governance because I choose to.’ He’s indifferent about residing under an autocracy as long as he’s in its favor.
What on earth could he possibly be referring to? Even the panelists on “The View” wouldn’t sink that low when discussing Elon Musk.
What happened to him?
He also criticized Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro, who rightfully pointed out his supportive rant about Luigi Mangione. (The original sentence: He even attacked Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro for rightfully calling him out on his pro-Luigi Mangione rant.)
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Burr explained that he’s not familiar with the man in question, but he seems to be acting quite recklessly. Regarding Shapiro’s critique, Burr suggested it was primarily driven by financial gain: “It appears Shapiro just saw an opportunity to make more money if he labeled my statement as ‘woke.’
Burr is taking a hard-Left turn, no doubt. That’s his prerogative.
The problem is twofold.
The nation appears to be shifting towards conservative policies due to overreaches from progressive governance. Yet, he feels misaligned and in agreement with a group that seems to have strayed from its original path.
Is there a hint of humor, anger, or stupidity in his latest statements? Absolutely, it could be any of those.
Of course.
Funny? Not so much.
