In the recently launched Prime Video series titled “House of David,” Stephen Lang portrays the prophet Samuel, a significant figure from Abrahamic religion who is believed to have lived approximately 3,000 years ago as a messenger of God and anointed the first kings of unified Israel. This contrasts starkly with his rugged, tough persona as Colonel Miles Quaritch in the “Avatar” films. When speaking with MovieWeb for “House of David,” we were keen to learn about the potential development of this radically distinct character in the upcoming movie, “Avatar: Fire and Ash.
So you’re asking me to discuss ‘Avatar’, aren’t you?” Lang replied, looking surprised. “I guess you’ve got me stumped! After all, James Cameron has already shared plenty about it. So, I suppose I can hint at some things regarding the upcoming Avatar films.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, allow me to share my thoughts: “Indeed, Quaritch stays true to his character. The admirable aspects that make him endearing are still evident, yet some less appealing traits persist. In essence, Quaritch remains Quaritch, but he’s in for quite a journey.
As a devoted cinephile, I must admit that I’m tiptoeing around the subject here, and I trust you get my drift. You see, I’ve got some rules to follow, or else they might give me a hard time. They’re keeping a close eye on me, and if I spill the beans, well, let’s just say it won’t be pleasant. But fear not! This journey we’re embarking on is going to be thrilling. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen before in the universe of Pandora. We’re venturing into uncharted territory, and I can hardly wait!
Stephen Lang Has (Tentatively) Finished Filming ‘Avatar’
Although we won’t see the third “Avatar” movie until nine months from now, and the fourth “Avatar” film (which started production in February 2024) isn’t scheduled for release until December 21, 2029, it seems that Stephen Lang has already completed all his filming for the series. This suggests that the character Quaritch may not feature in “Avatar 5”. During an interview about “House of David”, Lang mentioned to Collider:
I tentatively agree with a firm yes, but beware, Jim can be unpredictable. I believe I have completed my tasks. I feel like I’ve had enough! But with him, there’s always a chance he might call and ask me to come back. In my opinion, it seems finished. It feels like we’re done.
