Monster Hunter Wilds, developed by Capcom, is proving to be a massive success, boasting over 1.3 million players simultaneously on Steam. This popularity appears to have sparked some unexpected effects, such as indie game developers claiming it hindered their own sales and even the team behind Palworld taking a day off to enjoy the game. Interestingly enough, this phenomenon seems to have triggered an increase in sales for cheese naan as well.
According to Automaton’s report, the launch of Monster Hunter Rise has prompted enthusiasts to flock to Nepalese eateries across the country to purchase cheese naan.
What makes cheese naan special is due to a specific scene in the game where food preparation and consumption are featured prominently. In this scene, set in Kunafa Village, we witness the characters preparing and enjoying cheese naan, complete with bubbling, gooey cheese.
In the course of your adventure across the Windward Plains, your character will be warmly invited to dine in the village of Kunafa, home to desert dwellers unfamiliar with hunting and weaponry. These villagers, as a token of hospitality, offer you a dish that looks like a hot, cheesy naan bread from the outside world. As you sink your teeth into its crunchy exterior speckled with char marks, a burst of steam and gooey cheese follows. This meal, a grand feast for a foreign hunter, underscores the heartfelt welcome extended by these villagers.
Fans, moved by a captivating scene from Monster Hunter Wilds, translated their admiration into real-life quests for cheese naan. Even a Tokyo Nepalese restaurant named Salam Namaste joined the excitement, tweeting about receiving 99 cheese naan orders at midnight.

Given the high demand for our cheese naan, we’ve found ourselves needing to restock on cheese frequently,” said the restaurant. “Despite having a generous amount initially, I soon ran out and had to dash to the grocery store for more. A big thank you to all, especially Monster Hunter!
In an interview with iggn.ru, Kaname Fujioka, Executive Director and Art Director for Wilds as well as the Director of the first Monster Hunter game, explained how Capcom filled this short yet memorable food scene with attention to detail.
Fujioka shared that they spent considerable time figuring out the dietary habits of these villagers since they don’t hunt. If they don’t hunt, what do they eat? Pondering on their sources of animal-based nutrients led them to conclude that the villagers must raise livestock and consume dairy products. In areas where you can find a wheat-like grain, correct? Perhaps they create naan-like bread with that grain. To keep it simple and realistic, we wanted this dish to be easy to make and not too complex. We believed that cheese naan would be both straightforward and visually appealing, so we dedicated effort to making it taste great.
Indeed, despite the seemingly relaxed ambiance, it’s clear that great care was taken to replicate the authentic charm of a cheese naan dish, making it visually appealing and tasty to savor.
“It’s actually incredibly difficult to depict something that’s crispy on the surface but springy on the inside using CG,” added Fujioka. “We’d been making attempts at the food scene in Kunafa from early on in development, even at the prototype stage, and we just couldn’t get it to look the way we wanted. Still, the Wilds development team is incredibly talented, and I was shocked to see them ultimately reach the way it looks in the released version after a lot of trial and error. It really does look tasty…”
