Giuseppe di Morabito Makes His Eerily Futuristic Debut

Yasmin Wijnaldum and a sophisticated humanoid robot named Ameca recently walked the same runway at Giuseppe di Morabito‘s Fall/Winter 2025 fashion show. It’s unusual for a supermodel to share the spotlight with something so otherworldly, but Ameca seemed every bit as futuristic. The show aimed to express the conflict between fashion and our unclear technological future, perfectly depicting what we might expect in the near term.

The runway debuted as designer di Morabito’s voice echoed, urging Ameca to awaken. Centered on the stage, Ameca started by reciting a passage from Thomas Carlyle’s 1834 work, “Sartor Resartus” (The Tailor Retailored), which delves into clothing and human nature. With Amelia Gray stepping onto the runway, the organic part of the fashion show commenced.

In this collection, a recurring contrast was noticeable. Titled “ALONE WITH THE STARS,” the collection aimed to highlight the duality of antiquity and modernity. For example, delicate flowered corsets were preserved in cast metal, mirroring the armor-like garments worn by their male counterparts. In other parts of the collection, crinoline was reimagined as contemporary clothing, shaping blazers and mini dresses within a neutral color scheme.

In conclusion, Yasmin Wijnaldum wore an ornate jeweled corset that evoked ancient Greek statues, frozen in time. The model shyly engaged with Ameca, who then mirrored the model’s actions as a symbolic interactive moment bridging past, present, and future.

Di Morabito aimed to express a complex perspective on fashion that moves beyond traditional runway presentations, offering insights into modern life. Similarly, Daniel Roseberry created a robotic baby and matching motherboard in Schiaparelli’s SS24 Couture Collection using obsolete technology as a unique homage to nostalgia. Furthermore, designers like Collina Strada and Acne Studios are embracing AI as a creative tool for their designs.

Giuseppe di Morabito’s FW25 could mark Ameca’s first appearance on the runway, yet the dialogue surrounding tech, AI, and fashion is still in its infancy.
