Deadpool Steals the Show at 2025 Oscars with Hilarious Dance Number!

At the 2025 Oscar ceremony, an intriguing musical number was performed during the opening act, which paid tribute to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Surprisingly, the Mouthy Merc (or his capable substitute, to be precise) chose not to speak this time around, instead offering a short dance routine as entertainment for the Oscars’ audience and viewers of the 97th Academy Awards. Host Conan O’Brien jokingly titled the song “I Won’t Waste Time,” even though it seemed to extend the duration of the event.

This year’s Oscars are unlikely to be forgotten anytime soon, thanks to an unforgettable opening musical number. Host Conan O’Brien took center stage with a baton in hand, introducing a cast of characters from beloved films – yes, that included the sandworm from Dune: Part Two playing chopsticks on the piano, and even an unnominated Deadpool breaking out some moves.

A clip of the performance, posted by The Hollywood Reporter, depicts an individual donning Deadpool’s signature red-and-black attire gracefully stepping onto the stage. While the dance routine isn’t as intricately planned as the iconic opening credits scene featuring Deadpool and Wolverine (from the movie) dancing to NSYNC’s popular song “Bye Bye Bye” in 2000, which incidentally boosted the track back into the charts, it is a recognizable reference to the upcoming Deadpool film, following its slight oversight by the Academy.

Deadpool Is Used To Being the Main Character

Deadpool is often seen sharing the spotlight, but he’s usually the main character with other famous heroes making guest appearances instead of him making brief, easy-to-miss appearances. The 2024 movie Deadpool & Wolverine featured numerous unexpected superhero cameos, including characters from the X-Men universe, the Fantastic Four franchise, and various corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of the highly discussed instances was when Channing Tatum made an appearance as Gambit, a character initially planned for a standalone film that was later labeled a “quirky romantic comedy.” However, due to Disney’s X-Men reboot, this project never materialized. Consequently, Tatum didn’t first embody the Ragin’ Cajun until the third Deadpool movie. Despite this, he remains optimistic about getting a chance to lead a Marvel Studios production in the future, and perhaps then extend a cameo invitation to Deadpool.
