Brigade SS25 Bridges NYC and Japan

For the initial release of their Spring/Summer 2025 line, Brigade, a brand rooted in New York City, is venturing beyond its local influences. Instead, it draws inspiration from the cultural richness Aaron Maldonado encountered during his travels in Japan over the past ten years.

The brand, established by Aaron and Sarah Maldonado, proudly showcases its heritage from Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic in many of its clothing items, a connection that’s strongly emphasized in the brand’s newest collection. For instance, the Young Lords polo shirt incorporates images derived from past marches led by the Puerto Rican Young Lords, while the Lares button-up shirt displays the initial flag of Puerto Rico in the center. Additionally, the phrase “There is a war going on outside” can be found on another camouflage graphic tee.

In his interview at the TopMob Community Center, Maldonado expressed that “making NYC proud” is his top priority, a sentiment evident even amidst various other stylistic influences. The jewelry design incorporates trompe l’oeil Jesus chains, while Chinese energy is echoed through several dragon motifs and logos that reference Chinatown.
