2022’s Academy Awards were filled with unexpected events, but none compared to the shocking incident that took place during the 2025 ceremony where Will Smith infamously stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock across the face, an unscripted moment now etched in Oscars history.
On that particular evening, the Oscars didn’t have Rock as their host, but he has taken on that role in the past. Revisiting the idea of hosting again might bring back memories associated with that event, stirring up conversation once more – a prospect Rock may not be keen on. However, when interviewed by E! after last night’s show, the comedian left open the possibility of returning to host the Oscars in the future.
I truly believe that there’s something profound about the power of forgiveness. It’s not uncommon to encounter people who seem to be struggling the most, and I think that’s often because they can’t let go of past hurts. Forgiving others, and perhaps more importantly, ourselves, is a crucial step towards healing and finding peace. So, let’s embrace forgiveness together. After all, true love begins with understanding, compassion, and the willingness to forgive.
It appears Chris Rock might be ready to leave the infamous Oscar slap incident behind, which could potentially lead to his return to the Oscars stage, either as a presenter or host – a shift from his previous stance, as he expressed disinterest in hosting again back in 2019.
Moving forward, if Rock were to reappear, he wouldn’t necessarily need to engage with Will Smith during those years. Given that Smith is barred for a decade from participating in the event, there are yet several years remaining on his suspension.
It seems that Chris Rock might not be planning to take on the role of Oscars host anytime soon, especially after last night’s event. When questioned about Conan O’Brien’s performance, Rock couldn’t help but shower him with praise, going as far as saying it was so impressive they hope he gets invited back each year. In his own words…
I thought it was amazing, incredible. They should let him host every year.
Rock’s remarks appear to align with those who believed that O’Brien’s debut as Oscar host was competent, though not extraordinary. Given that there have been instances when finding an Oscar host seemed challenging, if O’Brien wishes to return, it seems likely that he may be given the opportunity again.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve noticed over the years some fantastic hosts who were so exceptional that they were asked back multiple times. Legends like Johnny Carson hosted five times, Billy Crystal nine times, and the legendary Bob Hope an astounding 19 times! If O’Brien manages to secure more hosting opportunities, he might just find himself joining this esteemed group. All he needs is a handful of additional appearances to surpass Chris Rock’s tally.
