Mamma Mia! is returning to Broadway.
The popular Broadway musical, initially performed from October 2001 until September 2015, is set to make a comeback at the Winter Garden Theatre this coming summer, starting on August 2. A special opening night event will take place on August 14. This short-term performance will run in New York City from August 2022 to February 1, 2026.
Upon the Broadway debut of ‘Mamma Mia!’ in 2001, the show had already enjoyed successful runs in London and Toronto, as well as a sold-out North American tour. However, nothing could have anticipated the wave of affection and applause (and impromptu dancing in the audience!) that greeted us at the stunning Winter Garden Theatre in New York.” This is how Judy Craymer, the creator and producer, described it.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a thrill reminiscent of leveling up, knowing that last year, “Mamma Mia!” marked an impressive milestone of 25 years in the West End. It feels like a triumphant return to its roots as I eagerly anticipate witnessing the original production back on Broadway after a 24-year absence.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m always on the lookout for exciting experiences that take me to new worlds. Just like that, this musical show has caught my attention. It’s not just any show; it’s the one that propelled Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried to stardom in the movie version.
Now, So, whether I’m exploring new cities or cruising the seas, I can catch a performance of this incredible show. It’s like being transported to another realm, right from my gaming chair!
Announcements for the Mamma Mia! cast on Broadway are yet to come. The show is scheduled to replace Good Night and Good Luck, featuring George Clooney, at the Winter Garden Theatre, with its run extending from April 3 to June 8 first.
This theatrical presentation showcases music and lyrics penned by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, a storyline crafted by Catherine Johnson, and is helmed in direction by Phyllida Lloyd with choreography by Anthony Van Laast. The overall production design is masterminded by Mark Thompson, while the lighting and sound designs are handled by Howard Harrison, Andrew Bruce, & Bobby Aitken respectively. Lastly, Martin Koch oversees the musical supervision, provides additional content, and handles the arrangements.
