Very few people have as much familiarity with the Star Wars franchise as Anthony Daniels does. Given that he starred in all nine movies of the Skywalker Saga, a feat unmatched by anyone else, and even appeared in the controversial Star Wars Holiday Special, his insights into the franchise are highly sought after by fans. Interestingly, it turns out that his favorite films within the Star Wars saga have surprisingly distinct preferences.
More recently, Anthony Daniels attended the FanX Salt Lake Pop Culture & Comic Convention and was inquired about his preferred “Star Wars” movie. As reported by Popverse, Daniels identified two films, one being his top pick for personal enjoyment, and another he found most enjoyable to work on. Interestingly enough, these two movies were quite distinct from each other.
Anthony Daniels’ Favorite Star Wars Movie Is The First One
As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’d have to single out the original Star Wars movie as my all-time favorite. Back then, we had no inkling of the epic saga this series would eventually unfold into. Reflecting on it now, I truly admire the straightforwardness of its narrative. It’s a testament to the power of simplicity in storytelling.
As for my preferred Star Wars installment, it’s undeniably Episode IV – the original one. The reason behind this preference is its straightforward narrative. It follows Luke, a seemingly ordinary character who transforms into an extraordinary hero, embarking on a classic journey as he encounters various individuals along the way. On the other side, you have Darth Vader, initially portrayed as the main antagonist, whose relationship with Luke’s father remained unknown at that time, making it more intriguing for me to follow the story.
Many individuals often cite the initial “Star Wars” as their preferred movie within the series, if not their all-time favorite film. Although “The Empire Strikes Back” is frequently acclaimed as the best “Star Wars” film, there’s an undeniable charm about that first production. It was this movie that kickstarted the entire franchise and held the title of the highest-grossing film ever made.
Daniels Favorite Star Wars Movie To Film Was The Last One
It’s plausible to think that given the uncertain success of the first Star Wars, and George Lucas and his crew pioneering visual effects, creating the original Star Wars may not have been particularly enjoyable. However, Daniels mentioned that he found the most pleasure in making the final film of the sequel trilogy, primarily because he relished collaborating with Oscar Isaac. Daniels elaborated on this…
Among all the films I’ve worked on, the most enjoyable one for me to create was the latest installment, “The Rise of Skywalker.” Working alongside the fresh cast, particularly Oscar Isaac, was an absolute delight. He truly embodied a Star Wars character exceptionally well and his interactions with Threepio were quite antagonistic, even surpassing Han Solo’s infamous behavior. Watching him annoy me while wearing the costume had me secretly laughing. However, the final product didn’t turn out as I had hoped, but it still adds to the Star Wars saga, so we’re all in this together!
In the final movie, Oscar Isaac and Anthony Daniels shared a significant amount of screen time. Interestingly enough, they both completed filming for The Rise of Skywalker on the very same day. It’s fortunate that these two seemed to get along well during production, with Daniels always praising Isaac’s acting skills.
Many fans seem to find themselves in a similar predicament regarding “The Rise of Skywalker“, if not the entire sequel trilogy. I, too, didn’t particularly enjoy the last “Star Wars” film. However, it’s comforting to know that the process of making the movie was enjoyable for someone. At least, they derived satisfaction from it.
