Utah State University’s Outdoor Recreation Archive maintains an extensive library of outdoor magazines, catalogs, and other materials dating as far back as a century. These resources can be explored either in-person at the archive in Logan, Utah or online through a digital archive. Now, the Outdoor Recreation Archive is taking its mission one step further with “The Outdoor Archive: The Ultimate Collection of Adventure & Sporting Graphics, Illustrations and Gear“, a book showcasing exceptional visuals and designs from over 70 outdoor brands.
This book, produced collaboratively with Thames & Hudson, is structured into ten sections based on different artistic mediums: outdoor and digital photography, collage, illustration, product photography, and typography. Notable figures like designer Jeff Staple and professional mountaineer Chris Burkard contribute insightful essays. The book features prominent brands such as Arc’Teryx, Snow Peak, Columbia, and Salomon, and unique sections that replicate original interior pages from A5 Adventures, Granite Stairway Mountaineering, L.L. Bean, and The North Face archives.
Pre-orders are being taken currently for “The Outdoor Archive: An Extensive Compilation of Adventure and Sports Art, Sketches, and Equipment,” which is set to launch on May 13 at a price of $65 USD.
