Matt Lucas has offered an apology to Millie Bobby Brown for the remarks he’s previously made concerning her physical features.
Shortly following the posting of a video by the Stranger Things actress, a well-known British actor and humorist expressed his support on Instagram, addressing criticism from journalists about her appearance.
Hello Millie, your recent post caught my attention and inspired me to reply. Around a quarter of a century ago, I collaborated on a comedy sketch show titled ‘Little Britain’. One of the characters in it was Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and usually wore pink tops. Since you share these traits, I playfully highlighted the resemblance by quoting one of her famous catchphrases from the show.
The actor from Gladiator II added, “I thought you were amazing, and I was truly embarrassed when the media claimed I ‘criticized’ you. This is not my approach, and I believe in your talent wholeheartedly. If I had known it would hurt your feelings, I wouldn’t have said it. However, now that I see it has upset you, I apologize sincerely. Matt x.
Lucas made a reference to a post he recently published on X (previously known as Twitter), featuring Brown in a pink jacket and blonde hairstyle. In his post, he used “No but yeah but,” a well-known phrase from Vicky Pollard, a character from the British comedy series “Little Britain“, which was broadcast between 2003 and 2006. Later on, the “Daily Mail” published an article alleging that Lucas was making a harsh critique of the actress with his post.
Following the response from the Emmy-nominated actress towards critics on social media and the media who commented or wrote articles about her looks during the promotion of The Electric State, an apology was offered by Lucas.
Brown expressed in a three-minute video that he’s been growing up under the public eye, but it seems as though others refuse to grow up alongside him. Instead, they expect him to remain unchanged, as if he should still resemble his character from the first season of ‘Stranger Things’. Since he doesn’t meet these expectations, he’s now become a target for criticism.
She expressed, “It’s troubling that grown writers scrutinize my appearance, my actions, and my decisions. What makes it more disheartening is when these criticisms come from fellow women. We frequently discuss empowering young females, but in reality, it seems simpler to belittle them for increased readership.
